Hey im thinking about buying a gun in the not so distant future and i was wondering what types of pistols are legal in Canada.

Also, is it a pain to get a pistol license? Is it best to just start off with a shotgun or a long barrel hunting rifle?

I know that a pistol has to be of a certain length and can not be automatic or have a large clip for it to be legal in Canada. What are some models that are legal to have in Canada? And what are some good types of pistols for a beginner or a firearm newbie like myself?

Answers will be greatly appreciated

Thanks, Dylan

NOTE: I am new here and don't know much, but this is the way I understand it:

Yes they are.
You need to get a gun license first.
There are two types, non-restricted which includes rifles and shotguns, and restricted which includes handguns.

you can't only get a restricted license, you need to do both.
Most places offer courses for you to do them at around $250.
Then you need to apply to the government, which will take a few months and need references.
Also, near the top right of any forum page, there is a search feature which you can use to learn a lot.

Anyways, I hope someone can come along and clarify this for you soon.
