are savage .22's any good?

I have a 22 mag without the accutrigger. 1.25 inch groups at 100 with cheap win ammo. Not the fanciest thing but a good little rifle. Some of the mag catches need work from factory but it is a pretty easy fix.
 
I have a savage Mark II FV, bolt action. honestly, it shoots and performs great for a bolt gun, but in hindsight, I think a 10/22 would be loads more fun.
 
In .22LR I've had a Savage Mk II GL and Mk II GLY...both were great shooters right out of the box. Can't beat the price either...and Made in Canada!
 
Savages are one of the best values you can get. The only two rifles I don't like from then are their 64's and the Steven Favourites. Sold the favourite, still have the 64. The MKII's are great. The accutrigger is worth the extra coin. The mag catches need a little work, but nothing you can't do yourself. The 93WMR is one of the better .22WMR's I own. Accurate, never had a misfire, never had a problem with it. The 93R17 needed a little work at first. It was my first Savage that had the mag catch problem. Good rifle, but I own better .17HMR's.
 
Some of the target versions with the accutrigger are supposed to be very accurate. If I was getting one that's what I'd consider. Savage makes a lot of models. I'd stay away from the cheaper ones.

Far as I'm concerned, some may disagee, but if you want a really good .22 with decent accuracy and workmanship it seems like you have to spend over $500.
 
i own a new savage 93 and a new 10/22, the savage wins hands down for finish and overall quility, my older ruger is built better than the new ruger,
if i could do it again i would buy a savage 22lr over the 10/22
 
I have Mark IIF and its great very accurate rifle. Stay way from Savage 64's those are on the other hand very poor by design.
 
I have a 93R17-FV and a MKII-FV, both are very nice rifles. The .17 will shoot sub-moa at 100 yards in no wind with its preferred ammo. I am still working on finding a round the MKII likes, but from what I have seen so far, it will be very accurate. The .17 has never had a mechanical problem of any kind in the over 1000 rounds I have sent down the tube, the MKII on the other hand is extremely reliable with ammo it likes, but with some types such as xpert and yellow jackets, it has massive feeding problems. Overall, i would buy them both again in a heartbeat, and will be adding a 93 in .22 mag to my arsonal as my next purchase.
 
My Mk 2 FV is all I want from a 22. Really accurate with American Eagle ammo. I was going to replace the plastic stock with walnut, but after hauling it around in a tractor for a month and getting several deep gouges into the stock I decided to stick with the tupperware.
 
I Have fired the Mk II- FVT s in both the older version and with the Accutrigger; either version would be hard to beat, especially the Accutrigger versions. On the other hand, the 64s were pitiful. I currently own the accutrigger Mk II-FVT and consider it really an excellent .22 cal.

cant hate at this price, i don't like the stock finish tho, (I got markIIGL) looking to redo it
 
I own an MK II FV and a 93R17 GV. I've replaced the factory stock with Boyds Evolution on both rifles. I've found them extremely good shooters. The Accu Trigger is awesome and both rifles are tack drivers.
 
I doubt you could find a "better" rifle for the price, and no doubt I believe they may shoot as good or better than some of it's more expensive rivals on the market. I love mine and intend on buying another.
 
I have a savage markII BV, heavy barrel and lam stock. I mounted a Leupold 3-9x36 AO top end rimfire scope. I can shoot .30 inch to .50 inch at 50yr prone outstide.

well if i had to compare my mark 2 fv and my 10-22, i would say the 10-22 would win in fit and finish, you can see where the lathe cut the barrel and receiver on the savage, the bluing is horrible, the mags dont feed some of the 40 grain ammo very well(especially the 5 round mags).the savage accutrigger is great once you get used to it, and the rifle is extremely acurate, all in the same hole at 50 yards. so i figure if i polisehed the barrel and receiver and reblued the rifle it would be nice looking and nice shooting.
 
Nothing but great things to say about the Savage BV from me as well. Never had a feeding issue, shoots most ammo quite well at 50 yards and a great price. Can't go wrong picking one up IMO. Only reason i'm selling mine is to fund a 10/22 for plinking and all around fun. I hope i don't regret it.
 
I own a Mark II FV heavy barrel with accutrigger and man, is it accurate!
Less than 1" groups at 50m with American Eagle 40grain solid lead and copper plated Dynapoint. If I really take the time to aim I can get clumps of touching holes. That's about .3" with a cheap Bushnell rimfire scope.
The dynapoints sometimes don't feed right but they're cheaper.

I've had one issue though: the bolt on my rifle seems to have skipped the hardening process.
In about 6 months and 2000 rounds, the cocking pin shaft is worn out (but still working) and the bolt rail shows signs of crushing.
As we speak it is on it's way back to Cabellas for repairs.
