That second photo looks familiar, both my mkII and 93 had a mark on the bolt in that location when they were brand new. At first I was worried about it, but it doesnt seem to be getting any worse. It is odd though.
Well, I guess I'll have to be that one guy that always spoils it with a bad experience. I had a Savage MkIIG that immediately (within the first 25 rounds or so) and constantly failed to extract. On Rimfire Central I quickly discovered that this was a fairly common complaint. I called Savage and they shipped me a new extractor ejector and retaining clip quickly with no questions asked (great customer service but I also got the impression they'd been down this road many times before). That fixed the problem for another 25 rounds or so, so I called them again and again they were quick to send me the three parts. Of course, it lasted less than a box of ammo. If you've seen the extractor on the Savage MkII you will know that it's a cheap little plastic "hook" and it was continually getting rounded off and would not grab the empty shell casing. How it manages to work for other people I don't know, but be happy it does. I do concur that the accuracy was quite good but I can't stand stuff that doesn't work reliably (especially guns) so I sold it.
After that experience I swore off of Savage rimfires until the day I first saw the BTVS .17HMR with thumbhole stock. I hummed and hawed for awhile but people on the forums seemed to like them so I bought one. First session at the range and glory be! She extracts! Too bad it would fail to fire about 2-3 shots per mag Again, some deeper internet research uncovers others who have had this problem and so I polished the firing pin (which was extremely rough) and stretched the firing pin spring a bit. Now it only fails to fire about 1 round every couple of mags. Again, accuracy is great but I'm not sure what it would take to convince me to buy another Savage rimfire. Thank-god for my 9422 and 39A!
