Are sightrons as good as the Leupolds/bushnells/Burris etc?

Sightron scopes: how do they compare to the Burris/Leupold/Bushnells?

Just about to buy a hunting scope. I have had Bushnell 3200's (3-9x40), 4200's (2.5-10x40), Burris FFII 3-9x40, Leupold VX1 3-9x40, Redfield revolution 3-9x40, and I was just wondering if the Sightron SII scopes measure up in the areas of 1) Glass clarity 2)durability 3)warranty coverage
I am always willing to give a new product a try. Thats why I always have "odd" guns on hand. Anyhow, these look pretty good, but either they have a small advertising budget, or they aren't well known for a reason.
Please chime in if you have experience with these sightron S1 or S2 scopes and previous experience with any of the above listed scopes. Just to help me make a decision.
 
I'm not adversed to buying a used one. I only want a basic 3-9 or 4-12 with normal functions similar to the scopes mentioned above. I am sure that an S1 or SII can be had for 400 or less. I'm not talking big sky SIII , only the basic and mid level scopes of sightron.
 
Well i own a SII big sky and its great, I also own numerous Vortex scope and the glass is just as good.

The SII or SI aren't worth buying. The SIIB and SIII are great for their price range. Stick with Bushnell 4200 or Vortex Viper, etc, for your price range.

6 of those are out of your stated price range. Ones that are in your range are cheaper in a bushnell for a similar scope. Eye roll all you want but you either need to beef up your budget or just buy the bushnell 3200-4200.

Leupold VX-II 3x9x40 Duplex $409.95 at WSS (see 2010 catalog). Stretch a little for the tax plus whatever inflation has added since last year and you have a really good scope. I actually think you might get one for a bit less at some of our sponsor dealers.

Bushnell Elite 3200 is pretty good and should be right in your ballpark (various choices of Duplex etc.)

Both companies have bullet-proof warrantys.

I own and use both but am partial to Leupold which seems to take more guff.

Bushnell 3200 3-9 x 40 is a much cheaper scope, but for the money can't be beat.

$215 at P&D, but I believe Reliable has a sale on Bushnell right now. I would check them out, and maybe go with the 4500 if you have the money for an extra $100.
 
I just want to know how these Bushnell/Burris/Lower end Leupolds compare to the Sightron SII series. I have all the above scopes on other rifles I own, but I am wanting to try something different. The sightrons have caught my eye, and I want to know what everyone thinks COMPARED to the above scopes and others in the price ranges.
I know about the bushnells/leupolds/burris/Redfields as I own them all currently.
I just want to know if I need to look for another of the ones I already own, or can I take a chance on something new. BUT, I don't like taking chances on things I don't know about if I can gather a consensus first. Thats what this poll is about. I want to gather the general opinion of the sightron lines, and see whether (for the money) are they worse, same, or better than the more common lines............I have never held one, seen one in person, or do I know anyone with one. I'm not afraid to be the first guy I know with one. Just don't want to be stupid with my money.
 
you know, the way i see it is look at the two guys who carry them: Hirsch Precision and Mystic Precision. Hirsch also carries Nightforce, and Mystic carries Elite 4200 / 6500 and the Weaver T36. if those two guys feel that it's worth carrying Sightron, i think they're a good manufacturer.

though personally i'm trying to see if i can be OK to hop up to the SII Big Sky stuff or MAYBE the SIII. the backup plan in all cases is the SII 36x.

you can also read reviews of scopes on various US-based retailer sites, like OpticsPlanet <dot> com
 
One thing about the Bushnells is the Rainguard coating is good for a hunting scope, unless you only hunt in good weather.......
 
I have played with a lot of brands and offer 3 as part of my business.

By far, the new Sightrons offer the best glass in their price range and their performance rivals products costing as much as 3 times as much.

Tracking has also proven to be solid.

I used many Elite 4200 products and this was my number 1 choice for value until I saw the Sightrons. They are still an excellent scope but nothing really new in quite some time. No, the Elite 6500's don't rate.

So to answer the poll -

Best Buy for the money. Exceptional glass. Crisp settings. No problems with warranty.

Where did I mention a VXI or Bushnell 3200? :rolleyes:

Also keep in mind that not all Bushnell scopes are made equal, just like not all Burris scopes or Leupolds are made equal. Just because you've used a 3200 doesn't mean that you know what the 4200 is like, unlessed you've used one. Also factor in that not all models of scope are equal, even within the same model line. The Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 is a better scope than the 3.5-10x44 for several reasons, even though they are both Conquests...
 
It wil be difficult to get comparisons, as there are not as many shooters with Sightron as there are with the other products. The only retail place that does comparisons with Sightron, Bushnell and Leupold is Hnatiuks. They simply ask the customers to look through lower-end Sightrons, Bushness Elite 3200 and Leupolds. They buy Sightron alsmost every time. Actually 132 S1-3-9X40s sold this fall and winter with no returns. Of 20 Elite 3200 sales, 5 returns.

The above is consistent with almost all reviews over the past few years and that's why we sell Sightron. We are approved for most makes and all applied for, but sell Sightron and Nighforce.

do you have an idea what Sightron is working on for 2012?
Their reticles are not the greatest in regards of tactical application,
are they trying to twick them up?

Have you looked at the new MOA reticles? We can send brochure with details.

Sightron, as they should, are consumer driven and this was only possiible by employing a "redneck" from Tennesse, as firearm ownership is near impossible in Japan.
We aren't aware of 2012 reticles, but would appreciate input.

I am into optics

Started really getting into optics about a year ago, went on a moose hunt in 2009. Couldn't see what my buddy was seeing. He had zeiss conquest since then bought 3 tossed 1 bush, 1 loop, 1 vortex. Looking to get 2 more when i can afford it. Best scope for your dollar.
 
Caunuck007, OP is looking for comparisons of Sightron to specific makes. We are daily hearing from top shooters with years of experience that are buying Sightron and they have owned all top makes. Hopefully more will share their thoughts.
