Are sks and svt 40 supplies drying up?

One of the problems is the local officials in Russia have caught on to this demand for SKS.
They used to let them go for $25 per unit. They have salt mines full of them.
Now that they see just how many are leaving the country, they have upped the unit cost to $125, or more.
Everyone wants thier cut. Nothing goes without many stamps of approval.

Expect future shipments to find the market price for the demand.
I'm glad I got in before this. Had a feeling.

Nothing good lasts forever.

And as to the pure quantity produced-there were only @1.6 million SVT's produced, and they were used in probably the highest attrition theatre (Eastern Front) of WWII- and this was before the butchers like Globe firearms started reaming out the chambers to .303 in the early '70's (Mohawk 555-$99 in 1971 Sears Canada catalogue)-whereas PRC production ALONE of SKS'S-all post-WW II-most immediately relegated to 2nd string/surplus status (being replaced with AK-clones)-was reputed to be in excess of 6 million !!-add to that Russian,E. German,Yugo,Albanian etc.. production-there are probably well over 20 million+ still floating around-long and the short of this treatise-get your SVT'S while you can-I can quickly forsee the price-just as surplus Garands before them-settling around the $600-800 level-we still have some time on the SKS's...

I was under the impression that Russia has been destroying surplus arms lately, in the millions. AK's and RPK's included.
Just to be clear. Russia pretty much went bankrupt in early 90's because of 40 years of arming up and prepping for WW3. They have now been selling those arms & ammo for some years and they are finally making money selling the products that bankrupted them in the first place. Also, Russians, Chinese etc. do whatever they like. Anyone who thinks they will obey some UN bureaucrat has been taking too many pills. Also, there were 15 million of SKS's built but I still hate the idea of having to buy another SKS just to have spare parts.

From the keyboard of someone in the know.

Of course, many will continue to believe that the SKS supply is unending. Glad I haven't bubba'd mine.

That's why you buy two! One for Bubba and one for the collection. I agree that we'll see the supplies of the popular milsurps dry up within a few years. My old man used to pickup 303's at Princess Auto for $20. Last month I cruelly told him what the full stocked versions were selling for these days. He was quite upset as he had owned a couple SMLE's complete with bayonets. He took the last one back to the store because the stock was loose and they handed him a sporterized one instead. Enjoy the cheap prices while they last boys! Enfields in storage grease advertise for 500 bucks now. With an eye to the future, some young man who's just a glint in his daddy's eye right now might pay a premium for the rare chance to wipe cosmoline off a fresh SKS one day. Just sayin......

This is why in the past month I have bought 3 svts ( 2 kovrov ) 2 all matching mosin nagant snipers and a m44

There for my daughter who's 1 lol

That's what I told my wife and she agrees its a good investment.
I finally won with the wife guys!

Arrrrgg i'd like to get a few more sks to add to my one and one or two svt's but so much to buy with so little money :(

I wish it were so. There are far too many people that have no idea of what sks is what, nor the care to see what they have before they put the knife to them.

I agree with you %100... was just trying to think positive.... in 20 years the SKS will be worth more then we had once thought.

Really what is next?... military grade rifles for sale to the public in unissued condition.. this is the same as the Garands were years ago.. is it not..... it is not a comparison of rifles... more about the situation.....whats next unissued AR's..lol

Maybe less time. Refurb or not they aren't making any more and time does evil things to everything. Numbers are getting smaller every day.

Most people turn there heads at the SKS.... but is it a very well constructed-simple utility rifle.... everybody should own 1 or 2.... regardless of refurb or unissued.

Us Red rifle guys.. are like the trailer park boys of shooting... lol
