Are Stock Ruger 10/22 Bull Barrels accurate?

From personal experience. Ruger 10/22's are inaccurate peices of ####!

But, they are a LOT of fun!

With the 10/22T you get a better trigger pull, solid laminate stock, and an accurate heavy barrel. I replaced my barrel with a Green Mountain 20" stainless fluted just cause I like the looks of the barrel. It doesn't shoot any better then the factory bull barrel.

... and even though they say you get a better trigger pull, I'm still going to replace my stock trigger with a drop in unit, or trigger parts kit.

That will do a world of wonder for accuracy too.

Aftermarket barrels will be more accurate than stock ruger..they have a looser factory tolerance for mass production, where aftermarket makers can afford to spend more time on them and make them straiter.I remeber reading somewhere the factory ruger barrel straitness tolerances were pretty loose compared to most other firearms makers.Ruger is lucky theres such a huge aftermarket for these rifles, otherwise i dont think anyone would buy them..a new 10/22 is 200$ more than a remmington .22,and i think the remmington is a way better gun.But you cant do with a remy what you can with a ruger aftermarket wise. That kinda went long, basically the rugers (in stock form),are a crap gun compared to the rest of the pack

HOWDY. Accurate is relative. I found my 10/22 deluxe was good once, a trigger job and the barrell was free floated so the wood stoped putting pressure on the barrell in a different way with every weather change.

Mine seems decent. When i first got it i was pretty upset with the accuracy wanting hole on hole at 50 yrds. Getting 2 inch groups. I did a recrown with a brass screw and it seems to have closed up my grouping a bit but cant comment on how much. Sorry. It was worthwhile though.
10/22 isnt a target gun but 2 inches and under is good enough for rabbits and plinking. So im happy with it. Have fun with yours.

:dancingbanana: i can widen the original hole all day with mine at 5o yards.. no problem with accuracy. 2 inch groups at 100 yards. i dont think that is too bad. i go shooting with two others on here with ruger and aftermarket heavybarrels and they do the same. plug the same dam hole all day. maybe your barrel is no good. mine is great

I have the 10/22T as well, and the barrel IMO is plenty accurate. Grouped dime sized patterns at 25 yards while sighting the scope. Unless the barrel's giving you poor results I'd keep it and work on the trigger group, bedding the barrel and action to make incremental improvements on accuracy.

My scope is the Mueller APV and I'm very pleased with it.

Talk to Phil at White Falls, as they are the Canadian importer of Mueller scopes.

My 10/22T performed as well as that of Mightymouse. A little cleaning up of the trigger to about 2 pounds is all that was done to it. I have since traded it off to another CGN'r and he is still very happy with it. I could get 25 yard groups that you could hide with a dime and consistantly hit paintballs, 5/8", at 50 yards, maybe I hit it lucky with the one that I bought.

I bought the stainless T model and have had great results from trigger work, free float the barrel, bed the action and a 6.5-20x44 simons 44mag scope with mil dot. I can get dime sized groups at 50yds using Lapua club ammo (if I do my part right:rolleyes: ) Rimfirecentral has lots of great info and knowledge on these guns.
Hope you enjoy the new purchase!

The biggest detriment to good accuracy with a 10/22 is the trigger. The best money you can spend to upgrade a 10/22 is to get a trigger job done (Del Selin in Vernon does a good job for around $80).

I built this gun years ago, list of mod:

Anschutz Style Stock from Bell & Carlson.
Green Mountain barrel, and I recrowned the muzzle to 11deg style.
Volquartsen Performance trigger kit.
Volquartsen Cantilever scope base, drilled&tapped the receiver to fix the base with it, it's rock solid and the POI never shifts.
extended mag release made with a machine screw.
Volquartsen extractor
Bushnell Legend on Leupold QRW mount.
at 50m I could do sub 1 inch 5 shot consistently with any cheap target ammo. But I never tried the stock barrel as I got the parts before the gun lol.
