Are Tanfoglios worth it?

I'm an expert on nothing. However I do have and have had some fine guns. My first IPSC gun was an X-Five modified and tuned by Bruce Gray. My Custom 1911 is another jewel and I just love the SIG P-210 I own now.

I just got my Tanfo Limited Custom Xtreme in .40 and in that brief time have thoroughly enjoyed shooting it. My first match was Sunday and I'll shoot another next week in the company of some fine shooters including Mr. Elliot. The gun "fits" me perfectly and in terms of the shooting experience can only be compared to the P-210. I have no doubt that this will be my competition piece and the other guns will likely languish.

I expect that the Xtreme parts and the extra attention in the building and finishing of these guns will make mine likely to be around as long as I could hope for before they kick dirt blocking out my view.

Did you write a review of the 210 target on another site? I bought mine partially based on that review and don't regret it for a second.
Sorry for the off topic post op

If you are talking about a rather lengthy review of the P-210 with photos on the M1911.org site, yes, that was me. :) I may have posted that on the SIG forum too.

Nicely done. it is such a beautiful gun.

Thanks. I may do something similar on the Tanfoglio once I have more time with it and can do the research into the extensive history of these guns. I'm not mechanically competent but I see a lot of similarities between the P-210 and the Tanfoglio. They deliver a very similar shooting experience.

Hi Hercster let me know how you like the base pads and grips on the xtreme I am considering ordering them for my Custom Limited. but just dident have the guts to order them yet :p

The base pads that shipped with the gun were Eric G. branded and rectangular in shape. If the mags weren't "pinned" they would allow an extra round or two. I purchased extra mags from FV in aluminum. They are solid and rounded but present the same flat base as the OEM ones would ie. no extra rounds. Both work fine and should be very durable. Both install with a small set screw.

I like the Eric G. ones as I will buy standard capacity tubes for use in the US that should give me 15/16 rounds of .40 S&W. Since four mags shipped with the gun that will get me good capacity on the belt for the matches I shoot south of the border.

I wasn't sure on the grips from the pictures on line as I have the hands of a surgeon kept soft by avoiding work. They look aggressive so I thought they might be uncomfortable but not so. They fit my hand perfectly. They way they are machined gives me a very solid grip without the nastiness of some other designs. I'm very happy with them too. I've just learned that the grip screws must be Loctited as they walk as do other screws on that gun.

I'm going to order extra screws from Mr. Sean very soon.

Thanks Mr. Rob. I did use blue on the sight, the overtravel and grip screws. They loosen when you are in bed and not watching. I also have some small O Rings and like those for some applications too.

Listen to Rob he is the master :), i was using blue LT on mine but they would still get loose eventually, switched to the o ring and did not have to tighten my grips since. :)

I'm going to buy some more O rings. For some applications they are the best as they do the job without gunk and can be easily removed when necessary. I'll post the source and cost after I buy them.

I didn't notice you at the Silverdale match. Were you the one with the baby carriage?

Watchit buddy!! That was a bonafide gun cart. Don't go to Texas and call it a baby carriage or you will be singing soprano in the choir.:nest:

That sort of thing is common there as there's a lot of distance between stages and we run matches on up to eight bays at times. The cart holds my AR, the shotgun and the pistols along with ammo for each when I shoot 3Gun. There are different kinds of them but that style is the most common. It also has a loading tray for ammo for when space at the tables is tight.

I saw you briefly as we were signing up but then you disappeared onto another squad. I looked afterward and didn't see you again. Now you know how to find me. I usually carry a folding chair that helps keep my old legs from wobbling after two stages.

All you need now is a fishing rod holder and ipad harness and you are bound to have a great weekend anywhere you go.

It's not a baby carriage?

You're really treading on dangerous ground Mr Cars. As a six month a year Texan, I could put out a contract and have one of my buddies fall on you. You must have heard the phrase "Don't mess with Texas". There's one of my pals in the background. If Hal sits on you, you stay sat !

So it's true that Texans are all overweight.

You laugh but many of my shooting buddies down there have modified golf carts for the range. They have built in coolers and even mini sound systems. The range properties can be huge down there and for me, just walking between the stages can tire me out. That's why you see the folding chair in my cart.
