Are the Tango down for vert grips worth it?

they are both pieces of plastic i dont see how reliability could be an issue

If you haven't used both then obviously they just look like plastic grips to you, but if you carried a rifle for a job you'd understand the difference. The TD is a FAR superior grip. It's more comfortable and has a more secure mounting method then the UTG (which in my opinion is trash).

Most of the time there is a reason why the cool guys use what they use.

OK - at risk of looking like a newb...what is the easiest way to remove the TD vertical grip? It was a PITA to install...surely, there must be an easy way to move this thing forward or backwards?

I agree BTW that it feels much better than the UTG unit - I had a UTG on my CZ, and it was very easy to install (the down side was it had a habit of working loose and coming off way too easy, and at the most inappropriate times:eek:). It also felt like a mongol had carved it out of a brick of plastic...it was not the most comfortable grip, that much I can say:p.

It is possible that the Tango down product could be made of better quality materials.
But even If it was slightly better, it sure is NOT worth the price they are asking for it.

Thumbs down.

I have 2 vert grips, one UTG and one stubby D-boys. Absolutely Perfect. Fantastic.
Both are black.
Both are made of plastic
Both easily attach and stay attached.

$20 for the UTG and $7 for the stubby (e-bay)

I'm going to go ahead and assume that you have the old style with the 4 press clips, and not the QD version.

If you still have those small zap-ties that came in the grip, press down on each clip, and insert the zap-ties head in the hole. Once you've done that to all 4, it should be a little easier.

If you don't still have the zip-ties, Q-tips work as well.

Some rails, the grips are tighter than others. I've been lucky and been able to just wiggle it back and forth on tighter rails, but I've seen guys tap at it with a rubber mallet.

I give a +1 to the TD Grips.

Can anyone give me some feedback? Are they worth 5x more then the one from UTG?

Thanks

I have never used the UTG but I have a Tango Down QD, and like it a lot. Easy to adjust for the right amount of tension and very solid, no wiggle and very good ergonomics. The price we pay for our toys. I used to look at the prices of some guns and would go WTF! Now I look at mine and go WTF!

I like the feel of the tango down grip, the UTG just didn't feel right for some reason. I also tried the tango down full size & stubby grips and opt'ed for the full size for some reason just liked it better. Now some people like a high hold on there AR that's why they tend to go with a stubby. I't just doesn't feel right for me. so in my case I'm selling my stubby tango down... opps shameless plug on EE

PS: get a tango down you will be very happy with it.

I've alway felt the TG design was poor, especially if one needed to remove it with glove quickly to meet operational requirements (SHTF). TG does however provide a QD lever which I've found works quite well for removal and adjustment.

Troy offers a modular Vert Grip that allows to config in both full size and stubby which is also a nice option, but I'm not sure if they offer a QD mount. They are alum and have a better tack with gloves than the TG which I've found can be slick when dusty or wet. Mind you the Troy may be a bit harsh or cold when out all day in certain environments, especially with bare hands. Plastic is more friendly to the digits than alloy in sub-zero... it all depends on how you roll brother...

Troy has this one aluminum or steel (cant recall) fore grip that can be used either as a stubby or full size, it screws together at the middle, and at close to same price at a Tango Down plastic fore grip

I've tried em all. The KAC is always a good choice. The Troy is also quite nice. My last one was a Troy in FDE. I used a Tango Down and a KAC overseas and both did the job although the TD was a better fit (thicker) for a more traditional style hold (as opposed to the half-hand grip). A good friend of mine (who is cheap :D) used a UTG one....and it was always loosening off on him. In the end he swapped back to the issue Cadex POS.

The way I look at it is, if you have a nice rifle why not put the best accessories on it? Why settle for substandard gear? If money is the issue, ask yourself if you REALLY need the item in question and if the answer is yes then save your pennies.

Although if you have an el cheapo rifle then by all means clad it with all the tacticool garbage you'd like.

If your rifle is going to a static range, where you aren't going to be doing much - then by all means put whatever you'd like on it. If you plan on abusing the rifle, then go for quality for all of your components. I've used a number of VFG's in a variety of environmental conditions, and prefer the TD one over the others simply for durability.

Though if someone can find a way to make the velcro for the pressure pad actually stay on reliably through all weather conditions, it'd make it even better.
