I have a 12ga Remington 870 Tactical w/ 2 shot extension. The gun feels and shoots great but I am wondering if there are any worthwhile upgrades and mods?
I am looking for mods that would increase the safety and life longevity of the gun in all aspects.

I have a Mesa Tactical recoil reducing buttstock, 8 shell saddle, heat shield, and ghost ring night sights on it. And a flashlight. Yeah this is my SHTF gun.
I have an SKS as well and that one has a huge amount of mods for it, though that is like comparing apples and oranges.

Are there chrome lined smooth bore barrels for the 870?
I also have a rail on it. The ghost sights are good but what optic would you even put on a shotgun?

Thanks

As you know, a sidesaddle eliminates the cross pins that hold in the trigger group and replaces them with threaded bolts. A door knocker style choke tube protects the muzzle from dings, and a heat shield will protect the barrel from dents should the gun ever get dropped. A polymer magazine follower with a long tail will ensure trouble free feeding and prevent the mag spring from bunching up. A rail for a flashlight and/or laser might be beneficial, or if cash isn't a problem at your house, a Surefire forend is a nice upgrade, but it sounds like you have the basics covered. If you want an optic, I would consider a reflex sight. If there are any chrome lined barrels available for an 870, I don't know about them.

"Police" solid extractor to replace the cast one your gun likely has. I would stick to the ghost ring but if you must have an optic, go for a real good reflex.

add on a jumbo head safety. If you want some performance improvements, send the barrel to tactical ordnance to give it the vang comp treatment.

A $10 forged extractor as a "back-up" that you will likely never need/use. Other than that, you really don't need anything, unless you like bling. Reflex sights are VERY nice, but not necessary.
