are there any native alberta hunters on CGN?

was actually hoping to hook up with a local native,if you read the thread title it is there, and it is perfectly legal for me to make a hunt trip fishing trip trade. With a native.sorry if you misunderstood,am not seeking a non native hunting partner for a trip trade as this trip also requires a status card!its fairly obvious what the demographics of this site are was hoping for the 1% to respond not to invoke the obviously anti natives could debate many points with you,but honestly,if I had to explain you would not understand, again please mods delete this thread,no good can come of it!

Yes, I saw that after my post...sorry.

What anti-Natives? Thread seems pretty civil and respectful to me.....

Not sure what points there are to debate with me......my points were strictly relating to laws affecting us white guys!

I'm a native Canadian, I was born here,Just like everyone else.

My parents happen to be of European decent, but some how I see no difference in colour of skin or hair. We are all here to show respect for the game we pursue. And the laws we pursue by.

I buy tags, ask permission, and play by the laws of the land.:)

:agree: Couldn't have said it better myself. :D

lol
have fun with it guys, you are all right to varying degrees,I know how you feel is justified by reason and we are way off topic now,and honestly I just wish you all well and hope you have a merry christmas!

Hey SM Mike, youve been a real good sport about this.:)

This thread gives a few who have had a few issues with native rights to hunt, a place to vent, cause we've all had some bad experiences or heard some horror stories.

In all honesty, It's prolly where you wanted the thread to go, just didn't realize it.:D

The mods are waiting with baited breath to delete this one.

He wasn't talkin' about breaking any laws. The powers that be gave him a different set of rules than they gave me. If I was given a the same rules to hunt I'd take full advantage of it. I'm sure I wouldn't be alone.

my $.02

Stops the white dude from shooting it and saying the First Nations dude did though.....

True, but I wonder how big of a problem that really was to begin with? I'm sure they simply made the law to preclude any possibility of it, without any evidence there was a problem to begin with.

Gents,

Tread very carefully here. A couple of you are dancing on the line. Turn this into an anti native grudge comment, and I will hand out infractions. Be respectful in your comments and reread what you post before you post it. Otherwise this gets locked.

Remain on discussion. If you have a grudge on native hunting rights, then start another post and tread carefully...

Cheers

Jeff

I do hunt in season, during legal shooting light,im not a trophy hunter, and as I said believe in conservation.I would however take a meat buck at this time as I have harvested 0 this year,I only shoot what I eat, knew this was gonna get a rise n way off topic, mods please delete!

Welcome Mike,
Given your hunting methods, you would be welcome in Saskatchewan as well. I hope you instill these values in your children and in other status friends.

Hey Morph, not saying you are wrong but from where I sit this is one of the most respectful posts regarding First Nations hunters that I've ever seen. Is it not possible that we are becoming so politically correct that we are unable to speak our minds, in a respectful manner, about issues such as First Nations hunting? I've got no time for these threads that turn into name calling or generalizations about a certain race but I honestly fail to see any line this thread has danced:confused::confused::confused:

Has something been deleted?

Not trying to be an ass here and any thread that deals with this type of issue has the potential to go downhill but it also has the potential to be a real learning experience for all involved.

Just curious!

history shows this subject is just one post from going south. I agree, it is a good discussion but we don't have much luck here in the past. It is a shame that most issues with any controversy get locked because some people don't take the time to have a civil discussion.

I am not PC and appreciate open discussions. Alot the mods get tired of having to deal with the same problems over and over again. My efforts were merely a reminder to stay on course.

lmao I asked IF there were any alberta natives, and what THEIR feelings were on my hunting in THEIR teritory would be,I have not actually even so much as unlocked my guns!this is a whole new thread now!I would like to say to the euro natives,do you feel that the new immigrant familys are also natives?just wondering if you honestly extend this feeling beyond yourselves, also I shudder to think what some would do if you had the opportunity to freely kill year round,I have no desire to abuse any wildlife, only to eat some quality food & enjoy a day or 2 doing what I love!No I wont give up my right to hunt just to please a few people, nor will I abuse it for anyone.I break no laws to hunt.I am drug & alcohol free.I work all day every day except sunday.yes I pay taxes.I support my family.lol I also have all my teeth!this has been fun but,if you would like to debate native hunting rights please remember I am 1% of the membership of this site.(or less Im beginning to suspect)I can not answer for anyone but myself.I do wish you ALL a merry christmas.I WILL NOT apoligise for my heritage.oh and happy new year!

On that we have common ground. We saw the fiasco with all the "New" Metis in Alberta in the past couple years.......most of whom were basically white guys looking to abuse the system. The constitution has granted certain rights to our First Nations people and as a Canadian,I respect the rights afforded in that constitution. My only issue is with those that work to abuse those rights. Obviously you are not one of those people......

this is a whole new thread now!

You better get used to that on CGN....lol

Sorry for my part in the derailing though....I thought you were looking for a native Albertan (born here) to take you hunting...not a Native Albertan. Hence my comments about the legalities.

Hmmm. Well, a friend is Iraqi. He and his family have made Canada their home. They purchase tags and hunt, same as all other imported Canadians.
I have never had an issue with native hunting when it's done with respect for wildlife and other hunters and fishermen. One of the practices that I don't agree with is the harvest of a Moose fetus without utilizing the rest of the animal. These are the practices that may or may not be culturally significant, I don't know, but it's not responsible use of the resource.

Hi having recently, well august actually was when I moved to calgary was wondering what the locals hunt and when, where etc, have held off hunting this year and it is killing me!Do I have to enter draws,I am status from BC or follow the season dates?Anyone want to trade a hunt for a salmon/sturgeon trip?hope this doesnt P.O. too many many nuts but I gotta know!

Having read the original post again it is more clear. This thread was intended to communicate with Natve Albertans only.

Now I should stop here but as the thread has gone a little into a different area I will continue.

All non natives should not have replied. It was the first few posters who replied that prompted me to post. I assumed that they were non-natives and their posts seamed to be saying that :

"us non-natives have no problem with Natives huning year round without licences etc."

I was mearly pointing out that If one hunts in season with licence like most hunters, then most hunters will like that and treat one like an equal. But if one takes advantage of their "special status" , then many people (who do not agree with your "right" to that special priviledge) will treat them differently.

I think that Native Canadians should stand up and say "We are in favor of conservation and proper management of the wildlife in Canada. Therefore we give up our privilage of being legally able to hunt without a licence in any season."

Alberta has Subsitence laws which allow any Albertan that can show they need wild meat as part of their diet, to harvest certain animals on a free permit.
