Are there other women shooters out there

This sounds like a good idea.

I can try .

(Confidence, is not lacking at all in my wife. She lives and excels in a man's world, far better than nearly all men. and does not even see a glass ceiling. but that's another issue. )

Great. Here's another idea. Tell her to search YouTube for videos of some of the gals that are burning up the competitions. Lena Miculek is an overnight superstar at just 18 and a fine young lady by all appearances. She's not alone in the games either. She is an excellent communicator just like her mom and dad. I just recently got myself a tactical shotgun and find her videos very helpful.

The action games are so much fun that they could become illegal. Take a look at this clip to get the juices flowing :)

Yeah, that is awesome!

She needs something like this. If I can just get her there, I think she will like it.

I know girls, generally, do take to shooting better, faster. My Grandma was a real sharpshooter. My Grandpa didn't shoot at all. She had this old single shot .22. If she took 2 shells, she got two rabbits. We had a huge garden.

Women, in general, that are open to guns, have less preconceived notions and they're easier to teach. Just my 2 cents.

I would really like to converse with other women because I hope it will be more enjoyable. Check out " gun storage" under recent posts and see what they are like. Is it any wonder I want to get on a womans forum. No offence to the few civilized men out there who are here to talk about guns, not to criticize peoples grammer and spelling or their choices as in the "gun storage" post.

It's spelled "grammar."

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Wow...only a few out of 113.001 members!

That's ok. If your a man you just proved my point. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I think your mixing up gender with boorish behaviour. Internet forums tend to bring the worst out in people as others have said. I think it starts with the total lack of body language in comments. A simple comment with the smile missing can be offensive. Once it starts it generally goes downhill fast. It could be prevented by carefully reading what you just said and using the edit function (my posts...heavily edited). Also let's face it written communication isn't a male strong point.

Anonymity also brings out the Trolls.

As for the fairer ###...I worked in an office with 60+ women. If I ever have to do that again god help me!

The poor spelling makes me a little crazy too...google it gents...best spell check ever.

I agree with you 100 percent. My wife loves to shoot and is starting to get serious about getting her license and I took a 13 year old daughter of a friend of mine to the range and she loved it. She was also a great shot for someone who had never picked up a gun before. Women shooters will definately be an asset to all shooting sports.

Took a bunch of women (and guys for that matter) to their first range trip, save for one exception..the women shooters tend to catch on quicker and are more receptive to learning instead of the ("ya ya I know")of the guys. I would take women shooters anyday! For whatever reason they also seem to be bloody great (or moreso than the new men anyway) shooters too!
Would love to see more ladies at the range :)

Exactly. For those who are "grammatically sensitive" , these forums are a nightmare. Hardly a day goes by that my wife doesn't ask me why I'm groaning under the weight of it all. In my defense, I was educated in a day when grammar errors were rewarded with a ruler across the knuckles.

As regards the gender issue, back in the 80's I managed a large mostly male organization. My staff included just four women in administrative positions. Those ladies were responsible for 85% of my staff-related stress. For pure viciousness, it's hard to beat the estrogen set in groups. While men wail away wasting energy with punches, the ladies can quietly disembowel their perceived competition. Some of the daily tears were mine :-(

In my second career, I taught/tutored/coached a large number of people in the then emerging computer "arts". My favourite clients were 70-year-old women; the worst by far were younger males where far too much energy went into "chest thumping". My ladies were a pleasure to work with and learned much more quickly.

"much more quickly" is this not grammatically incorrect teach!?

Not in my book unless you prefer "quicker". Both quickly and quicker are adverbs as far as I know. Maybe you could explain. For what it's worth, I wasn't trying to teach anyone anything. However word games are fun. Play on....

Has anyone had any experience with the STI Spartan V. If so, would you choose it over a SAM, Springfield, or Para, all in 9mm.

For future, start a new thread if you have an unrelated question. Makes it easier for other people with the same question or interest.

That said, I like the STI Spartan. Would I buy it over the others? Only if price and availability made it the clear winner. Otherwise, you can't really go wrong with a 1911 from any of those manufacturers. The SAM 1911 Commander I shot looked like the finish could have been better but it didn't affect the way the pistol performed at all. I've read some internet rumour that there have been issues with swapping in non-SAM parts, but I'd do my research on that first. Seems like a great budget 1911.

As far as other women shooter's, they exist. Glad you're part of the group. I got my wife's best friend into shooting. She goes to blow off steam and put holes in paper. I shot a steel match with 2 ladies in my squad. One of them shoot's IPSC, the other was just starting out with action shooting. It's all about fun and branching out the sport. I hope I can get my daughter into shooting, but since she's only 4 months old, I think there's still time. I'll just have to show her a lot of Katelyn Francis videos for the next 10 years. :D

Based on my observations, there are two things that keep women away from shooting sports. Meatheads, and not introducing them to firearms in a suitable manner. You can bring any guy to the range. He'll happily blow holes in paper, and leave grinning. You do the same thing to a woman who's unfamiliar with firearms, and they'll either love it or hate it. Those who end up hating it seem to have the same responses. Fear, either of the noise or recoil. Often both. This happened when I took a group of coworkers to the range. A couple of the girls thought it was fun, the others haven't been back since. After getting their feedback, I've started out any women I bring to the range with a .22. Teach them about grip, stance, sight picture and trigger press. By the end of it, their fear of firearms are dispelled. From there, we can work with my 9mm for a few magazines and they come away loving it. They also end up shooting better than their husbands/boyfriends. For them, it's not about things going bang. It's more of an academic challenge. Since taking this approach, those ladies have made at least one other trip back to the range.

If you're looking to shoot with more women in your area, check into the action shooting sports. IPSC, Steel Challenge, IDPA. I'd be surprised if there weren't a few ladies.

I agree 100% with the other folks on the thread, ignore the meatheads. They annoy many of us guys as much as they annoy the ladies. Personally, I make it a policy to not piss off someone who's as well armed as I am. :D

Ok ladies, this is the only women's thread I'm aware of so I will ask here.

I have paid for a membership for my wife for years and she has never gone shooting. When I say I won't renew it, she says yes you will. (so guess who wins that.)

So how do I get her to go shooting?

Why doesn't she shoot? Is it due to lack of confidence or fear of firearms? In any case, a .22 may help.

Precisely. "quicker" would have been my preference and "much more correct" ;)...ball is in your court sir.

Too funny. ;) We really should cease and desist before I become annoying. "Quicker" would have worked but not as well as I wanted to convey a higher order of magnitude. "More quicker" would have been redundant and so the equally correct "much more quickly" was used.

Aside from our little game here, what I was really trying to do was explain why some of us get impatient with the creative use of language on the forums. We see instances where new people are chided when they refer to a magazine as a clip. However in the interest of leaving the English language intact for future generations, some folks might like to learn that "their", "there" and "they're" are not interchangeable; nor are "your" and "you're" and for the Texans, "y'all".

I make mistakes with some frequency but learn every day. As much as I hate being "wrong", I look at mistakes as an opportunity to learn.

With that, I'll jump over the net and wish y'all a good day.

Victoria Fish and Game has a Ladies Only club within the club, it's one of the fastest growing sections of the club, and it looks like they're having a great time. They 'sample' various sports (trap, Cowboy Action, Action Pistol, etc) as a group, while also having ladies only shoots. It's a great way for clubs to grow membership and for shooters who might not otherwise get involved to be involved.

To the OP, I think there are lots of lady shooters and hunters out there. More than half the people I hunt with are ladies. However I think there are less ladies posting on CGN as there are guys posting. Almost every girlfriend I've had or dated comes out shooting or hunting, most have gotten their PAL and several their hunting lic. I don't consider myself a body snatcher, but if they're going to be around my place , they need to be comfortable around firearms, or better yet, proficient with them.
