It's actually good old Canadian DA ball, the predecessor to IVI. We used it until we started on the IVI ball in the late 70s. DA ammo always seemed better to me than the IVI which was initially troubled with QC issues. I always liked the way that it was put up in the 5 rd stripper clips in waterproof bandoliers ready for field use as I felt that we actually had combat readiness and the troops in mind . We lost this when the IVI was packed in 20rd boxes like sporting ammo. That took a lot more time to top up an FN mag than did the DA in the 5 rd stripper clips, but I suppose that it saved money on procurement.

Got in a trade, wouldn't mind keeping them for my .308, but if they are collectable I won't shoot them. Thanks so much Jay!

Yes we used those with the FN . Also had cloth with 6 pockets that held 2 X 5 rd clips each . I gotta a couple of the cloth ones

Thanks Gentlemen, I wish I could ship it easily. Not sure if there is a market for the stuff locally. Will probably keep and shoot her.

I remember 7.62 NATO IVI packaged 2-5 rounds on stripper clips into a cardboard holder. Each 10 round "package" was then inserted into a light cotton bandoleer. IIRC, three bandoleers to an small ammo can or 6 to a large can. I never encountered 7.62 NATO in cardboard boxes. Also, we used quick loaders that mounted on the C1A1 mags in conjunction with the stripper clips similar to what we now use to load C7/C8 mags. IVI 5.56 NATO however was/is packaged 10 to a plastic stripper clip, 30 rounds per cardboard box, 28 boxes to a large ammo can (840). Also, the IVI made .303 ammo for the Canadian Rangers is packaged in 20 round cardboard boxes. In any case, IVI in 7.62 and 5.56 NATO is NATO spec and as good as Lake City NATO spec ammo. The 303 ammo for the rangers however is made to commercial specs nowadays with soft point bullets.

Definitely some transition over the years back and forth.
I have some un-opened cans of early and later IVI.
The early IVI is head stamped from '68 from a 1969 Lot and packed in 20 round cardboard boxes complete with individual dividers for each round.
The later stuff with a '79 head stamp belongs to a 1980 Lot and is packed in the five round strippers into the cloth bandoliers.

I have a few rounds of that old DA '65. From an old full bore shooter when I shot the C1 and L1A1, he said it was desirable for the sportco 7.62 target rifles. Not sure if their scores dropped off after 1965 or what.

Not sure about lot numbers but he did mention the year and was not impressed the IVI mid 70s were getting at the time. The best I saw the IVI mid 70s do was 2" at 100 yards from a bench in my Parker-Hale 1200 and I could do similar prone over a bag. It would be nice to try some of this 762 in that 1/14" twist barrel, idea for accuracy with the 144-147 gr bullet as a comparison, but the rifle is long gone. I often wondered what standard ball 762NATO IvI would do in the C-3 compared to my 1200. Anyone shoot it or know?

I was going to try some '65 through my M-14 on the bench, but I just like to keep the few rounds I have.
I only remember the 2 strippers to a cardboard box in a cloth bandolier for the IVI 762NATO.

I used to buy as much of that as I could shoot for 50 cents a round, luckily I kept all the brass. I was only buying it because it was cheap, not knowing it was decent quality ammo. It always shot 2 inches from my stock 2007 M305, and then a bit less when I did m14doc's gypsy tricks to tighten the gun up a bit.

Both the DA and IVI cases are tough MILSPEC brass which is preferred for reloading an M1 Garand or M14 types. The DA64/65 ammo always shot well. The last I found was 2 complete sealed bandoliers about 10 yrs ago. The fellow I bought it from thought that it was match ammo. Close, but no cigar.

Unlike Lake City in the US, IVI never made any match ammo. I remember in the 70s and 80s, the DCRA target shooters were supplied with free 7.62 IVI ammo. In order to get the accuracy they needed, many shooters re-barrelled their rifles with undersized bores (.307). It helped some but not much. In any case, for all DCRA matches, shooters had to use the issued ammo and everyone had the same handicap. This ammo was made for reliability and combat accuracy, i.e. about 6" groups or less from a C1A1 at 100 yards using iron sights. The same ammo was used in the C6 machine gun.

The markings are located on the "ties". There are a series of small holes imprinted into the plastic. You should see D.A.Q: ### (the ### being the lot #).
