Nice looking rifle

It's a non-restricted rifle.
I currently have one in 7x57, and I just sold one in 8x57 last month.
The 8mm ones seems to be more common than the others.

Where did you get that??? What rifle did you think it was??? I'm extremely curious :D

I'm not going to lie, I know little about the rifle in this thread and never stated otherwise. I figured because I had not seen any in EE they were possibly on the prohib list because of some stupid gun regs, not the fact that I thought it was something it wasn't. Nothing on the wikipedia page made me believe it was prohib when reading about it.. that's why I said " "don't see why it would be prohib"

It's okay I could see how you might find my comment ammusing ;)

FN-49. Non-restricted and not a Red Rifle! Should be Mil-Surp forum. Most common calibers are 7mm and 8mm, .30-06 more rare and they command a premium. I still miss mine.

Dont feel bad, the original poster put a Belgian designed gun in the Red Rifle section. (as first pointed out by X-man)

(EDIT, well it WAS in Red. Now moved.)

They were sold in large numbers in Quebec in 1975+ I saw quite a few there and even considered buying one myself. Excellent rifles in 7mm and very reliable actions.

oh well I didn't find it amusing at all considering there are a few FNs on the prohib list.

and like any prohibs (except autos perhaps) there are no particular reason for them begin prohibs

There is a nice one in 7x57 at Accuracy Plus in Peterborough.
I don't know about the up to serial number 4999 business, but there were some Belgian issue '49s that were originally selective fire, and were sold in Canada as semi auto. One of these would be a 12(3) prohib. IIRC 10% of the Belgian issue rifles were selective.

4999 was the last one made under that contract that was selective fire. I owned it and stupidly sold it before the law change, would have gotten me my 12(3). At # 5,000 they were manufactured semi auto only with no parts or provisions for selective fire.

The SAFN49 is the predecessor to the FN FAL. I don't know much about the select fire ones, but the non select fire SAFN49's are non restricted. They are very nice rifles. It has been said that with the quality of manufacture, they would be too expensive to be made today.
