Are these rings/base any good?

Hello, I am quite new to precision rifles and I have a question about my rings and base on my .308 700 SPS Tactical. I spent a lot of time choosing the stock, trigger, and the scope but for the mounting hardware I just went with what the people at Cabelas reccomended when I picked up my scope and had it mounted. I don't even remember what brand I got or what I paid.

I'm wondering, is this setup any good? I am thinking a Weaver type would be much better, no? The scope is a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42mm. I have about $2000 invested in this rifle and I am wondering if the rings and base are the weakest point. If so what can I upgrade to for $100-200 that would be better. I have a fixed mag so a two piece base or one with a loading/ejection port cutout like the one I have would be nice.
 
they will do till you get out far, you might run out of elevation


I would look into Badger,TPS,EGW,Near for bases(20moa) and rings
 
yes he does (a TAD high)and I have a set of TPS rings that will not fit on his bases
 
Burris Zee rings are pretty good too ... saves you from having to worry about getting bases with +20 MOA. The plastic inserts also prevent you from getting ring marks on your scope tube.

It's what I run right now on a Near base. But I have had Farrel bases (they are as high as everyone says) and TPS rings in the past. All good.
 
Thanks for the advice. So that setup I have isn't the greatest I take it. I see Burris stuff all over the place but where is a good place to get some of the other brands? I live in Edmonton so I'm thinking P&D.
 
Near is based out of Camrose.. do a search and you will find him.. prices are high but you will not find a better product.

It is what I use on all my rifles.

These have proven to be excellent on a few of my accurate rifles.
The ability to compensate for a less than perfect base alignment has saved grief on a couple of 'em, too.
No need to lapp, and zero stress on the action when screwed down tight, as well.

One time, the wind toppled the rifle off its bipod and on to the granite, the POI did change a bit that time .... but the movement took place between the base and receiver on those little 6x48 screws.
 
Farrel, Nightforce, TPS, Kyle Precision, these are all high end pricy one pc bases I use.
Burris Signature Z are excellent. These will not scratch your expensive scope or go with aluminum alloy rings. They are easier on your scope than steel rings.
 
They look like the Leupold standard bases and rings with windage screws. If that is what they are or a good copy I think you will be fine. I have used Leupolds in the past and think they are great. Try them before you spend more money on something you already have. Buy some ammo. Cheers Ross
