are those Turkish shotguns from Marstar any good?

if you have a LeBarons club card (10% off), the 18" 870 Express with +2 mag extension is $350 before taxes there. that would be your best bet. if you dont have a club card be sure to get one since it will save you 10% on ammo as well.

hmm, thanks for the tip! i didn't even know about that 10% card. that price is good too, so the 870 might be worth a serious look.

and thanks for pointing out Cabelas.ca - i forgot that we have that place around..

the club card is $25 but will more than pay for itself on your first gun purchase. its valid for a year - gives you 10% off everything thats not already on special.

youve said youre not really into swapping parts - regardless, the reason you get an 870 is this: go to the EE forum, 'Exchange of Parts and Bits', and do a search for '870'. you get six pages of stocks, barrels, accessories and various parts for them and they are so easy to change a monkey could do it. right now you might just want your gun for plinking, but who knows - later on you might want to get into clays or hunting, and you can simply buy a second barrel (eg: 28" vent rib, with Remchokes) for pretty cheap on the EE and youre good to go.

now do a search for Tomahawk and you get 0 results. there is no aftermarket at all.

I had one of the earlier generations of the Turkish shotguns that was sold under the name "Kral" I think. The gun worked fine when I had it. I sold it to A buddy of mine who still has it. Keeps it mostly on the boat and hasn't had a problem with it. That said, I sold it precisely for the reason mentioned by other posters. There was no aftermarket support, or even easily accessible replacement parts.

I replaced it with an 870 and do not regret it one bit. Over the last year or so I've made about 5 different guns just from swapping parts on my 870. Not to mention it's reliable and feels solid in my hands. IMHO you can't go wrong with the 870, or even the Mossberg.
