Are Vortex Scopes that good??

Hi Everyone

I have been a long time Leupold and Zeiss scope owner and fan. However, I looked through a buddy's Vortex Diamondback scope yesterday and was VERY impressed. Especially when you consider the Vortex vs Leupold (VX3) price point. Can anyone comment from field/hunting use?

I use em for almost everything!

I like their tactical line, the PST and the razors and such, but I have no problems with any of the hutning stuff too. 2 pairs of the my 3 binoculars are vortex, and I might end up with another of their spotting scopes yet.

Vortex has some good design, and they're pushing hard to compete with Leupold in as many ways as possible. Plus they have some cool red-dots and the like.
 
I like them, replaced most of my leupy's with them, warranty is top shelf. Still run zeiss or swaros on my high end hunting rigs, but probably going to go all vortex, zeiss warranty work is a little on the slow side being they got to be shipped to gentec then zeiss and back to gentec before you get it back. I sent out a zeiss just after Xmas still waiting.
 
I just put a Vortex Diamondback on my girlfriend's new target rifle, and I've been VERY impressed with it so far. For ~$200 it's a GREAT scope.

I wouldn't base my opinion on a scope I just put on a target rifle. I'd use it for a couple years before giving it the "GREAT" scope thumbs up.

First impressions are one thing, but there is no substitute for time and use.
 
I have one on my Tactical .223 and like it. Price, warranty and quality seems to be very good.

Viper 6.5-20X50.

I've looked at them. I wasn't as impressed as some. They looked decent but they should be considering they weren't at the bargain price for their respective performance bracket.

They have a good range of products. The naming thing is a pain as it takes a bit to know which one is the better product without seeing the prices first. Also in the states they run the same product with two different naming schemes that are the same thing. :confused:

Their lower level stuff you're basically buying a competitor to the Leupold 1 and 2 level or the Redfield marked products. They are ok, but nothing spectacular. In the low level stuff, the Burris fullfield in my view is better. You get 95% light transmission in a $200 scope. Not so with the Vortex stuff. You have to go up a few levels to get that and the price then puts it into the same range as well known and proven decent level offerings.

Their higher end stuff is priced the same as known high end stuff. Let's face it, why would I go that route when I can get something that is known to be top grade at almost the same price?

Just to be clear. I'm not saying the scopes are bad or not a good pick for your application. They may very well be. What I'm saying is they are priced close enough to other stuff that I know will perform. I'm not seeing any deal here.
 
I have Vortex Viper HS models on my .223 and 30-06. It is an absolute pleasure I find to look through those scopes. Crystal clear and the reticles are nice and thin. Decently priced my 4-16x50 with rings was almost 700 bucks. I dont regret buying it though.I havent found anything bad about them but then again the longest Ive owned a Vortex is half a year. Still first impressions still count and I can only say good things so far.
