Are we in 22LR recession

Yes, we are in a major .22 recession. Everyone that reads this thread should immediately go out and hoard every single last .22 round they can get their hands on to make sure of it.

Good thinkin'. I'm off to Walmart before they close. Have to hit CTC in the morning.

.22 everywhere. At every store. On every shelf. Stocked.
Same with centerfire. Same with shotgun. Lots.

Has anyone noticed a margarine shortage?
Seems like every Ikea I visit is sold out.

I listened to some advice I read here on CGN. Everytime you are in a store that sells ammo, check if they have any .22lr. If they have some in stock, buy one bulk box (333-575rnds). Don't horde, don't buy thousands and thousands at one time, don't buy out the store or you are just screwing the next guy (unless there is only one box left but you can hardly call that hoarding). Using this method I've accumulated about 10k rnds in about 6 months even after shooting it regularly. At this point I have enough for almost 2 years so I'll probably stop buying and only replace what I shoot.

Locally in Ottawa for me so far it's been hit or miss. I'd say about 40% of the times I'm in a Walmart, CTC, SAIL, LeBarons, etc. they are sold out (or only have Remington which I don't buy as none of them shoot with any accuracy in any of my rifles).

Of course this doesn't work if you fire several thousand rounds a month. But for me I shoot maybe 250-500rnds of .22lr a month and it's worked great.

My local CTs and walmarts haven't had a restock in months. Just empty shelves with that placard to notify the peons that it needs to be restocked.

It seems that the 22lr shortage is really spotty

My suspicion in that Canada's importers and distributors can't get new stock, and haven't been able to for months.

So the guys that really turn it over and didn't have massive inventories have run out, and can't get more.

The guys that turn it over more slowly or that had huge stock haven't yet run out, but when they do, they can't get more.

In other words, if you're still finding it, it's because we haven't hit bottom yet.

Where I do most of my buying the supply of .22LR is dwindling and from what I understand he is not having any luck buying more.

Originally he had a couple of million rounds if not more so although prices are up there is a concern for supply a couple months down the road.

Winnipeg Cabelas is out of stock on pretty much all bulk .22 same with all the Canadian tires in Winnipeg

Wholesale still had bricks of Winchester last night. Pretty low on everything else. I grabbed a few boxes of CCI stingers from Cabelas, that's the only CCI 22lr I've been able to find in town recently. Good thing I've still got the single shot, shorts seem to be plentiful. ;)

I don't think importers haven't been able to get it for months as LeBarons has a really rapid turn over, import their own for most of their items, and have gotten orders of .22lr in every 4-6 weeks. It sells out faster but still keeps coming.
The store at the range I shoot at is owned by the same family that owns Bowmac Gunpar who are a big importer and wholesaler. They have also gotten in new shipments from the US every few weeks but it seems random what they get (Rem, Win, Fed, RWS, etc.)

I never thought I would live to see the day when wholesale had a sign up saying "no .22lr ammo"...geez, you would think that an outfit that big would have the foresight to have a stash for gopher season on the prairies.

Its not because of WSS lack of foresight.....theres a North American wide shortage that has been going in for 18 months or so.
