Are we still marking "Sold" in the EE?

I have seen Mod's requests to mark sold items as "Delete" or "Sold" when the item in question has been sold on the EE.

I have tried a couple of times to do that; I can edit the post text but not the Title?

So what am I missing?

BTW I tried to post this in the EE FAQ thread but I was not given access.

I had an item deleted the other day that I marked **SPF* as in sold pending funds.... went back to mark it delete after getting the funds and it was allready gone.

don't have a problem with that... just saying eh.

If a thread was marked "SPF", it should not have been deleted.

You are responsible for your posts until they are marked for deletion, or until they are pruned by CGN at around 90 days.

"SPF" threads are not removed.
The EE is searched for the word "delete" only.
Searches for "sold", "gone", "found" etc., only turn up hundreds of multiple ad threads of which only some are actually sold.

From the EE Rules.
# If your item has been sold/found or a deal is pending, please edit your ad to reflect this. If you no longer require the ad or the deal has been completed, please put "DELETE" in the thread title. This makes forum clean-up much easier for the volunteer moderators.

I've just had an "all sold" thread deleted. It was not marked "delete" in any way - nor should it have been. The thread needed to stay up so that a) buyers could compare their goods to the pictures and descriptions on arrival and b) I could add new things to the thread.

So I'm re-posting it, having kept the text after other "learning experiences".

I don't even know which mod nuked it nor who to ask about it - and this is the second thread nuked improperly in just few weeks. The first one was for a atchisson/ciener conversion, not even sold. The point of knowing who removed the thread would be to gently educate the mod regarding the EE rules - not all of the rule keepers know them inside and out.

I mark the threads "all sold" to save time for those reading the titles, not so they can be deleted. Not any more, I'll just leave it "active" and let readers thread through and find the "sold" signs beside each item.

I had that happen to me a couple of times, as a buyer. Now I take a snapshot of the EE pages of the items I buy so I have it if I need it when the gun comes in the mail.

Well why did you put all sold in the title, to me that says delete? If a mod deleted it, that would be why. If a Mod were to browse through the thousands of threads they look at in a day, and leave the ones that users dont know how to change to delete or forgot about, there would be thousands more usless ads in the EE. SOLD marked items say the item is sold, i have been paid, the item in question is now gone.
So did you still have the item in question? Did you already get paid for the item in question? Do you need to come here and complain about a FREE service? ;)

You click on the "go advance" button. that will allow you to change the title.
And Yes you need to mark them delete.

Uh...so which is it? Do you need to say Delete, or will Sold do it? Contradictory answers from the same person/mod won't do much to clarify the situation (free or not ).

The first point is already answered. To quote my post:

On the second point, it does not say "delete", it says "sold" - your reaction is the very reason I came here, to whit:

Here is rule 14 taken directly from the EE rules section:
If your item has been sold/found or a deal is pending, please edit your ad to reflect this. If you no longer require the ad or the deal has been completed, please put "DELETE" in the thread title.
I did exactly this, and my post was deleted anyway - because some mod did not know or understand rule 14. Halger280HVMag does - notice his earlier post in this thread - but those who don't need to be corrected.

On the third point, if the free service is offered erratically and no-one says anything, it will get more erratic and gradually fail. So I am doing CGN a service by bringing this up.

Yes Mark them DELETE, As was already said, not every person on CGN is as computer savy as you two i guess. Some marked SOLD have been deleted, as there is nothing in the actual ad to say differently. The reason to mark DELETE is because marking SOLD only turns up thousands of search engine entries, that may or may not need to be deleted.
If i am goiong through the EE nd i come across an ad marked SOLD, i look at it, if it says EVERYTHING SOLD, i will delete it, as i take it that the OP is not computer savy enough, or has simply forgot about his ad. I do not have the time to write a responese and ask if he wants it deleted, i will just remove it.

On this issue, mods can simply search on "delete". Anything not so marked will age-out anyway ( I believe the aging is set to 90 days, but that could be shortened if it leaves too much junk lying around).

A mod should not use judgment when the judgment flies in the face of the clearly-defined rules, in this case #14 as quoted.

Stop acting like a child.;)

On the first point, your explanation did not make sense to me, and I've explained why.

On the second point, please explain how quoting a clear rule, then pointing out that your interpretation and action on the rule is incorrect, or at least inconsistent with a reasonable interpretation of same, is "child"ish.

If you think the rule doesn't work - and apparently that's the case - then get together with the other mods and have it changed. Then everyone who reads the new rule can follow it and get predictable results.

Your sarcasm aside, if he was "computer savvy" enough to edit it once to mark it Sold, he's probably "computer savvy" enough to mark it Delete, no?

In any case, you're still being inconsistent with the rules as stated. And I'm not being "childish" or obtuse...I would like it clarified as Sold, Delete or either.

I like to mark those as "sold, please do not delete yet"

I tired to mark a few sold a week or so ago but couldn't find the ads.. search function was down.

Just tried again, still not working for me.

Why can't we search for posts by a certain user anymore?

Well from the responses here today, i will once again clarify, that threads marked Sold will not be touched, you need to mark them DELETE. I was wrong to remove your SOLD ad, if it was even me who did it.
So, mark your ads DELETE, as SOLD doesnt really mean sold, it means i want to hold onto my memories of my sold rifle for ever.

Just to shed some further light.

If you have a post marked SOLD and you want to post more items.

You will be limited to one more post as the SOLD post counts as one of the two allowed entries.

So it is in your interest to change to Delete.
