Just wondering if anyone has used the WLRM primers for the .338 Lapua or the .378 weatherby ? I have all but given up on getting Federal 215's , but was told tht in recent years the WLRM has surpassed the 215 as the hottest primer, and to give them a try. I'm sure most are of good quality, but the more info the better. Just want to use the best I can get to ignite 100 to 116 grains of powder.:50cal:

I believe Federal uses special primers, internally designated 216's for their 416 and 470NE factory ammo.

For what it's worth, I've never had any problems igniting extruded powders with 215's in my 378 and 500a2, even at -10*c

Federal 215M's are, at this time, in very short supply.

I'm having trouble finding LR mag primers of any kind.

I have a supplier that tells me that a shipment will be coming in in 2 weeks from CCI only. I have an order in for 1K.

Primers

I went to 215 M's over 215's had way better luck, I can't say anything about any other primers as those are the only 2 i have used. I did talk to a guy at the range who switched to CCI and had good luck so there is anothe option.
you will have to try a few kinds and see what works for you.

Article in Handloader(?) mag about pressure, maybe 2 years agos, stated that IIRC win primers ran pressures up as much as 5000psi in some loads. they said to reduce your powder charge and then work back up if changing to Win primers.

Just like anything else, primers can vary a bit from lot-to-lot even within one manufacturer. However, my personal experience leads me to conclude that the average WLRM primer lot is a bit hotter than the average Federal 215 lot. The difference is not dramatic, but is there. Chrony will show it up in most instances. Regards, Eagleye.

Ive had no problems with CCI, they seem not to show pressure signs as early as Fed, Win. Harder cup?

Seems like 210M and 215M primers are all but extinct? lol
