In center fire I've had a fair bit of guns come and go. I kinda miss most of them but if I don't use it in 10 years or so I pas em on. Down to only 5 right now ( bare minimum I think) not that I don't keep looking at more. But when it comes time to head out I always take the same one. My usual excuses come up, this one is to nice to get a scratch on it (444 XLR +308 laminate), or its not stainless it might rain (8x57), could be a long shot(.44). So the 300wsm stainless plastic stock (crowbar/door prop/climbing stick) is the only one that gets out to play. Or it just me.

I used to be like that but now I like to use them depending on the species hunted the range I might encounter ect. I love shooting all my rifles so trying to use them as much as possible makes sense to me, also I do not collect them to not use them.

Not just you.

“I don’t have a load which patterns like I want”... meanwhile it is 5 pellets which are off.
“I havent found a slug which groups like I want”... and the group is only a half in bigger than the go to.
“I don’t like the hiviz sight”... have replacements, haven’t bothered changing.

i used to be a one gun hunter but i have changed my outlook. for thirty years it was a ruger 300/tikka 300wsm. i figured they already had hunting marks why mark up more. had many in the safe just didn't use them. now its what hits my fancy. last year was a 338 fed this year ruger scout in 308. trying a new one each year. next year i think the whelen will come out to play.

What I need and what I have are two different things. For instance, I have too many rifles that do the same thing, I have 4 270's, 2 284 win's a 7mm wsm, 308win, 308 norma, 300 win mag etc. What I need is a 223, 284win and a 338 win mag. :) The rifle I have been using over the last few years is a kimber ma 270win because its so light and easy to pack.

“ none of these 10 moose rifles in wild ass chambering are sited in”

For large game I always grab the same rifle, it’s my go to. I know it like the back of my hand and it would feel weird not heading out with it, it’s familiar like an old friend. I love my old sported No.4, it shoots straight and true if I do my part.

For the last 10 years I’ve hunted with only 7mm-08. It was my only big game rifle. This year I pretty much got handed a 270 win. Got it sighted in all ready to go for this year and haven’t taken it out once yet. My hand always goes to my 7-08. Mainly cause I know what I can and cannot do with it.

I have bought a few new guns so as to not need the 300 WM for deer hunting. Then I grab the 300 anyways because I am so confident with it out to longer distances. 200gr ELD-X bullets on whitetailed deer? Sure, why not?!

This is me for sure and if they are sighted in ill have no ammo loaded for them. I keep a parker hale 303 custom no1 with a fixed 4 tasco japan on it that is always sighted in for my hunting load

I own a bunch but always use the 257 Roberts. Gonna break away this year and take the 280 to the deer camp instead.

Probably go back to the 257 next year. :)

I like your style:cheers:
The stock shell holder is not for every one, but I have a habit of leaving them in the truck

I'm not a closet one gun hunter. Just an idiot with closets full of guns.
Oh What To Use ????????:runaway:

Nope, ye not be an idiot...Ye be NUTZ. :runaway:

I've used many different arms for hunting over the years and have generally favored lever rifles, like the many Winchester 94's & occasional Marlins
picked for the job. Been through all sorts of bolt rifles as well, but tend to stick with those that have a hand grasp cocking piece on the bolt to allow
for silent cocking/de-cocking. (Lee Enfields, Mosin Nagants & such) Single shot hammer guns have been in me mitts in the woods for many trips as
well.

The fun is in the selection from the collection fer the mission. ;)
