Are you a closet one gun hunter?

I'm thinned out quite a bit compared to the way I used to be lol. In centerfire I'm down to .223, 7mm-08 and .280 Remington. Used to have a .220 Swift, .25-06, .307 Win and a .300 WSM. Really regret getting rid of the .25-06, it was one sweet shooter. They all were, but I tend to trade or sell one to obtain another.

Down to one and fighting hard to keep it that way...M70 FWT 270 win. Hard to justify another when this does it all for me...I try really hard at times to justify another....

For many years I had 3 rifles to choose from and used them all under different circumstances but mostly the 300 WM got the call to duty because I lived for trophy hunting and if you can get a .300 slug into most any N.A. game animal it's done for...I didn't want to "not break any big bones" if that was the shot that was offered.

Now I just hunt for meat (I did kill the biggest Mule buck I ever collected last fall) really close to home...like in my yard close...now I try to kill at least one animal with every gun I've got in the house...every one of them has to "earn it's keep" so to speak and most of them older than 1920. I'm slowly whittling thru the heard, last year it was an 1871 Rem #1 rolling block, this year I'm leaning towards either an 1886 Win in 45-70 or an 1886 in 45-90 or it might be a Savage 99 that I bought new in 1967 at the age of 13 or.....

Not a chance:) They all get a turn, even though sometimes it’s several years between trips to the woods. This year it’s a Ruger No1 in .303 and a Husqvarna 8x57, couple of ancient cartridges that’ll do the trick.

I have a selection of deer rifles mostly vintage deer stalking rifles that I hunt with and take a different one out depending on what I would enjoy walking around with that day.Today it will be my BSA Lee speed in 303

Not I, but I certainly understand why... I'm pretty sure I have every niche situation covered and I always leave with a truck rifle for the way in and the proper bolt & optics rifle & one for backup for the type of terrain I'm in.

I remember being a kid and my Dad's hunting partner had a wall of firearms behind beautiful glass front cabinets in his living room, made some kind of impression on me and tho I survived with one rifle, one shotgun and one pistol for a very long time, when the means became available I scratched that itch....

No, but sometimes it might seem that way...
Usually I burn cash every year on the next must have rifle or scope. Some worked beyond expectations, some weren’t good enough for firewood...Most were somewhere in the middle- nice but had that one thing which rented space in my head.
About 4-5 years ago I wandered into a 30/06 Stainless DM Vanguard with a VX3 on it and with the right loading (factory at that) it’s stupid accurate for what it is.
The only space it rents in my head is what ever I point it at, dies. Quickly. No fuss, no muss, no quirks, no fragility’s just utter confidence and reliability.
But I always take a spare hunting although it’s been real hard to find a reason to take #2 out of the box (read; impossible).

Ive been searching for guns that Ill keep forever. Got a couple sakos that Im in love with, I dont think I need to buy anymore rifles for a while (after I get a 6.5-284 norma ;) ). I always find my way back to my ”boring” 30-06. Its new haven CRF winchester model 70 that my dad bought for me when I was 12. Ive shoot moose, sheep and grizz with it. I know what its capable of. Its the one gun that Im not scared to take on a rough hunt and its sentimental since my daddy-o gave it to me before I was a teenager.

Have a few guns but I always find my way back to good old faithful.

I like to use as many different guns as i can. I only get a week or 2 a year to hunt big game with centerfire rifles so its bears in northern ontario. Perfect for big bore fun. Figure i can only have 1 woman im going to get variety in my gun room. If everything works out itll be a 10ga backed by either a new 35whelen or 416 taylor for bear next year

Yep I'm afraid I am, in my modest selection from 2 rifles:
Is there a hint of snow/rain in the forecast? Yes - the African stays home, the Gunsite Scout goes out
Will I be walking through thick timber? Yes - the African stays home, the Gunsite Scout goes out
Will I be walking a long way? Yes - the African stays home, the Gunsite Scout goes out

I only have one put gun in the closet, one for dis, one for dat, one for de udder ting, den dere's dis one for dat, dat one for dis, and den de one o'er dere, fer dat ting over dere....and every time I opens da safe, dere is a nudder one in dere. And it all started from dat one, I don't how it does dat.

I'm basically down to 2 I use the most
1 - Custom built Mauser in 7X57 for good weather
2 - Robert Hart built 308 with Fiberglass stock for crappy weather

Not sure why but I keep buying more that only get sighted in and left behind when it's time to go.
Nutz for sure

Stainless/synthetic for rainy, light one for close fast bush, one zeroed for long range field shooting. Sometimes I'm chasing, some times I'm sitting, sometimes I'm just watching the field from the camp.
Also have triplicate of all those lol.

I got a safe full of nice hunting rifles with good scopes on them. The only ones I've been taking out this year is my Zastava in 8x57 & 7x64 and Ruger African in 338 Win mag. Every time i go out with them i convince myself this is all i really need........but then there's my other half that says nope, not happening.

Definitely not me, 7mm rem mag, stag in 7/08, soon .338 Fed, possibly a 6.5 gren build for SLR

Gotta keep it fresh! Meanwhile my fathers been hunting with a BLR in .308 since 94
