Are you a closet one gun hunter?

Seems I need a project rifle or two every winter. I buy them, clean them, refinish the wood stocks, re-blue, or at least touch up blueing where needed, fix damaged screw heads, add scopes, add slings (only if there are already holes drilled for the swivels). Then I go through some load development and sighting in ..and then ... and then ... I put them away. Most of them may get the odd outing to the range, but very few actually see a day in the field. What if it rained, or what if the ATV wheels threw mud all over the gun I took out? Or suppose I had to crawl through some thorn bushes with my gun, or God forbid, what if I had to lay my gun down on some rocks!

So, unless it's open terrain and there's a high likelihood of dry weather, out comes my only stainless/composite rifle. I have this strange feeling about it all ... somewhere between guilt and shameful stupidity.

I felt undergunned in the same situation with a 300 WM! But I guess if a griz comes at you, your best option is a CNS shot in which case a 6.5 would work as well as a 338, given sturdy bullets.

I had decently loaded 140gr partitions in the gun that day. They work great on deer... I've been using 120gr ttsx at 2800 lately... They do too. I have no idea how they work on a griz that's angry or hungry.

I think that day is one of the reasons that I bought that Sako .375 H&H. That makes me feel more comfortable like my 45/70 with 480gr hard cast at 1600-1700.

I'm more of a "one closet, multi-gun" hunter. I have a really big gun closet. Can't limit myself to one rifle for one species, let alone one rifle for everything. In the last month I've hunted and shot hoofed and furred game with a Merkel 140AE .450-400 3" N.E. , Verney Carron Impact Plus 9.3x62, Sako AV .25-06, CZ 537 7.62x39mm, CIL 900 .222, Anschutz 1433 .22 Hornet, Anschutz .22 magnum, Brno No. 5 .22 LR, and a borrowed Blaser R93 30-06. Birds with a Beretta O/U SV10 12 ga, Browning O/U Citori 16 ga., and A 12 ga. Win. Model 12 pump., and borrowed "Cricket' .22 LR. If I can't make up my mind some days I carry a Krieghoff drilling in 16 ga, .22 magnum, and 7x57R. I have a half dozen "elk" rifles to choose from. Kinda silly, but I like experimenting.

I hunt northern B.C.

While I’m wandering around out there I have several tags: deer, black bear, moose, elk, we’ve got LOTS of wolves with NBL ( no bag limit ) We’ve got LOTS of G-bears ( no season for these but they scare the chit outta me when they get too close )

I tend to grab the biggest gun I’ve got every time I head out 8)

I only have one caliber for big game .308, and two calibers for small game 12gauge and .22. All of my other firearms are used for throwing lead at paper and popcans.

I have 3 different hunting rifles I rotate through. I try to take a different one each year.

7055 - I really love your camouflaged stock!! Nice job.

I'm NOT a one gun guy..I'm not going to read them off. Suffice to say they are not found on a Crappy Tire shelf...or their fodder.
But one gun? Blasphemy!

This year I went hunting with a 375 Ruger NEW KING for moose, MacDef 6.5 Grendel for deer, 20G Ricol O/U for grouse and a Remington 870DM with buckshot for bear. One gun is no fun! :)

I used to have an array of 308 rifles and other dogging guns. Pretty much rely solely on my ruger 308 scout now. Can be adapted to any hunting situation, hunt any game I target, can switch between sights, red dot and scope easily and weather proof. Fairly accurate for a short rifle too.

I had ~32 rifles two years ago. I'm down to 6, and I'm hoping to get down to 4 by the end of the year. One modular rifle with numerous calibers, a waterfowl shotgun and a couple of 22's for small game.

Picked up a 94 that was produced in 1898. 122 years young. The next time I go out she's coming with for sure. I can't wait to say I bagged this with a 122 or (123) year old rifle. My new favourite gun.
