Are you a closet one gun hunter?

now that I m older I m not a serious have to get my buck type of Hunter anymore so I choose the gun I hunt with on basically what I want to carry that day.I like the classic hunting rifles of yesterday and one of my favourites is my BSA Lee speed which I take out for a nice stroll in the woods which most of my hunts resemble these days.Funny thing is I ve found that to me this way more enjoyable
than the serious (and more successful) hunting of my youth

I will get some flak for this , too many guns is like too
many wives/girl friends.

I carry on a great relationship with my current 5 any
more and I feel guilty not giving enough attention to
each.... I do have 3 non-current on the bench if the first
string gets boring .
 
I'm not a one gun hunter but I do have one gun that I go to whenever I have to get the job done and trust my rifle 100%. It's a Sako 75 in 6.5x55 with a 3-12x50 Schmidt and Bender scope. It never fails me and it's the rifle I know well enough to take on most shots with. I have plenty of other guns but they come and go when I get bored and fancy something new. The 6.5x55 is the faithful tool that sits in the safe year after year ready to be picked up whenever I need it. It's never let me down yet.
 
I'm getting there slowly but surely, the horde keeps shrinking year after year but still am in no real danger of having the moniker of one gun hunter hung around my neck.

Mine too.

A buddy gave me a custom 280 built on a Brno M98 action with a Sako trigger and I can't leave it in the locker once I open the door.
 
For big game I'm sitting on a .243 Win, .257 Wby, and a .30-06, all of which would do a fine job in deer camp. Looking at adding a .270 as well because I want one and that's a good enough reason to buy one. All of them will do the same job on a whitetail. Oh there's also an un-scoped .303 as well which is a total beater.
 
I was a one gun hunter (.270 savage 110 blued/walnut with bushnell elite 3200) but just picked up a whitfield mauser 7x57 to use... but too bad both rifles themselves in look and caliber sre so similar.
 
One thing I have to say that I ve never believed in just having one gun for hunting be it deer hunting ,small game or bird hunting as it s always good to have a spare gun for backup.So myself if I was going to cut down my collection I would have at least 2 deer rifles ,2 rimfire and 2 shotguns but personally I could never see myself with so few guns
 
I'm guilty, 1st is a ruger no 1, 300wm use to be my big game rifle until I put a few rub marks on the stock, so got a tikka t3 wsm stainless syn, ruger only sees the range now. both with vxIII. thinking a nice 308 is in my sights now, just not sure which one, something quality mountain rifle in south paw.
 
Nothing closet about it, I currently have only one centrefire rifle, a Sako 85 Black Bear in 30-06. Does everything I need for big game.

Rimfires, shotguns, and handguns are a bit of a different story.
 
I just might be. I justify new purchases and holding onto guns that don’t see much use by coming up with excuses, like:
1. This rifle is perfect for this one particular situation.
2. This rifle is a beater, I’ll use it in bad weather.
3. This rifle has a cerakote finish, I’ll use it in bad weather.
4. It’s not my best shooter, but it’s plenty good for up close work.
It goes on.

Ultimately I pretty much always take my handiest and best shooting rifle, my x bolt micro composite. I don’t have to compromise that way. I still like having the other ones though, just in case, haha.
 
Down to one centerfire at the moment. There will be more to come. Had a Sako A7 .308 that I liked and thought I was going to keep. But had the trade itch again and was really missing my 280.

Put it up for trade and a local guy offered me a brand new in the box Browning X-bolt hunter in .280 Remington. Couldn't pass it up. Got it tonight. Fits perfectly! The bolt isn't as smooth as the sako (but what is? LOL)

I'll be stopping by the Ottawa cabelas on the way home from work tomorrow and grabbing some rings so I can get the scope mounted and sighted in this weekend!

Any Mannlicher Schonauer Model 1900, 1903, 1905, 1908, 1910, 1924 High Velocity Sporting Rifle, 1950, 1952, 1956 Monte Carlo, 1961,.....

or a Husqvarna Model 1900. :)
