I dont doubt a Sierra Gameking shot accurate for you, and killed animals well too. My point was simply that you can get reliable killing performance from a small, lighter bullet now more so than ever before with bullets that retain near 99% of their original weight after impact. A 7-08 or 7x57 with a 140 gr X bullet will put moose and elk down as well as a 30-06 or 300 Mag with a 200gr soft point. Would I rather use a 300 Mag on elk? yeah probably, but if I had a smaller rifle in my hands I would still be skinning elk back at camp that night

Undoubtedly you can. And I realise bullet technology has made great leaps forward in the last few years and obviously I haven't kept pace with it although I am starting. That start is primarily the result of my son in laws persuasive efforts as well as input from yourself and bc spotrsman from HBC. Especially with some of the larger caliber 'stuff' like 338, 444 and 45cal, the results I've obtained over the years, following the "Keith doctrine" has served me well. With that level of success, there is some reluctance to change but I am making a 'start', beginning with my 7x61 S&H and using Barnes 140gr TTSX. Next, possibly 150's in my '06 and 308NM.

It'd be nice if we could just talk guns. ..

The origins of that came about when I purchased my 500 S&W. A shooting friend called it the top of the handgun 'food chain', like the Hum Vee or Hummer being the top of the 4x4 food chain. After I let him 'try' the big Smith out a couple of times, he called it The "Hummer" . Obviously he noticed the recoil.
