So how many of us can or are able to shoot year around. I will shoot trap every Saturday all winter long.

However, if the temp drops below -15 degrees Celcius then the traps don't work well, but I have not seen that yet.

I probably shoot more in the winter than I do in th summer. During the nice weather I'm to busy running the shooting part of our club and takeing care of registered to shoots. I'm VP, director of shooting and director of labour at our club so when things slow down I fainlly get more chaces to play.

ps ....I love shooting sporting clays on a Winter morning after a fresh snow.
 
Our club is open year round. Our traps have worked in temps as cold as -25C. What does happen in the extreme cold is that birds tend to be harder to break and sometimes shells will lose velocity.

I've shot in all weather conditions. The only thing that sends me back to the club house is lightning.
 
Absolutely, year-round ... but at less than -5C it gets a little chilly, especially if the wind is up, so I may find something else to do that day. Otherwise, a few Clubs are open Wednesday afternoons and Sunday within an hours drive.
 
Claybuster, I can't believe that a little thing like lightning would keep you off the range :lol: .

My range is not open if the temp is below -15, so at times we take the manual trap and go out to the farm. My "record" is hunting pheasant at -35 (and I got one, too). I have no real ambition to better that.

I've turned into a fair weather shooter. It used to be that I liked shooting a large quantity of targets. I guess I've moved on to wanting a higher quality of targets. Between the winter clothes and generally freezing your butt off, I don't enjoy winter shooting near as much. I still go out to the club every week and shoot the bull. Some days I bring my gun. Some days I actually take it out of the case. But I'm nowhere near the number of targets I shoot during spring and summer.

Well it wouldn't if it weren't for that 32" Italian lightning rod. :lol:
 
We shoot about every second or third week in the winter. We have to shovel the snow off the trap stations before we can shoot. Heavy snow has been known to discourage us. We are a small club. Only about 5 to 8 shooters in the winter.
 
NOPE, Our outdoor range the road doesn't get plowed so we arn't able to drive in, if it does you must get a RSO to go to open the gate or its a long walk into the range.
 
We had about 20 guys out for practice last Saturday. There is a Turkey shoot every Sunday somewhere around. Our club hosts one on the last Sunday of every Month.

I've shot in minus - 16 and standing in a foot of snow....
but I only did that once. I think I prefer it to be a little bit warmer, but what the heck, you take what you can get!

All year long

Our club the Strathcona range is open sat and sun in the winter month but they close the Intl fields and the five stand till spring
 
Year round

Here in Labrador it gets pretty cold around the beginning of Nov. We close our range Nov. 15 and start up again Apr. 15. Snow clearing is another problem. It's not unusual to have a 8' drift between the club house and the Skeet field.:)
 
I'd shoot alot more if there was a range open close by. Once or twice a winter I'll get down to Edmonton and shoot at Strathcona if its above -15C and they're open. Other than that the guns just get put away.
 
We shoot year round in Nanaimo.In fact,I spent the day today setting telephone poles in my shirtsleeves in the semi balmy weather.The bad news is that our ski hills have no snow on them!:(

Year round definitely, a big yes......Silverback and i shoot through the winter......Now some things are seasonal. For example if there is any snow the semi autos get a rest. We use levers and bolt actions more in the winter.
And if the weather is warm enough we use revolvers to keep the pistol so we dont have to worry about chasing empties, to keep the pistol shooting eye in practice. In the summer anything we want ( legally of course!)
