ARES Coated Bullets

You mean like the pic below? and pc coated means its cured, it will not bubble with a candle flame.

Also check the castboolits link has better close ups.

All i am saying is with my 3000+ bullets pc to date i have never seen any flake or any part of the pc left in any of the 7 guns i use it in.

Again, the OP asking about sizing before use would lead someone who knows about this to realize they have looked at PC bullets previous to starting this thread.

I have torched alot of powder coated stuff in my life without affecting it. I beleive those fishing lures you assumed were pc in fact probably were only a enamel or paint

They were fine overall. I shot the 9mm 147's, .40 180's and .45acp 230's. Only drawbacks for me are availability, price and a bit harder to load.

You need more case flaring and some projectiles had a buildup of polymer at the base resulting in some case bulge. I had a bit of a problem getting consistent OAL with them but that may have been due to my seating die.

Picked some out of the tray at the bottom of the backstop and the polymer was still adhering to most of the fired rounds. There is a bit of a different odour with these fired rounds but it is not unpleasant.
 
I ordered 1000 red and 1000 blue from CRAFM this week. They arrived today. Thanks for the excellent service. The ARES bullets are completely covered and no exposed lead. They measure .356 as a 9mm lead bullet should. I have loaded up some with 4.5 gn of IMR 7625. This is 0.3 gn below what I normally use for jacketed CamPro bullets. Will give them a try on my next range visit. Sure look pretty.

i don't dispute what your saying but if your using a lighter to cure the powder coating that may not be curing it properly. i've smashed many pc bullets and they do not bubble or flake when i take a torch or hammer to them. powder coating powder contains polymer or plastics which is what makes it such a resilient finish which is why it works so well for bullets. if it was a brittle as you say then we wouldn't still be powder coating bullets today.

the red is has some parts coming off because the coating is to thick in certain spots. all of the paint on those bullet didn't come off with me scratching them after being flattened.

Big Turk,
Just wondering if you have had the ARES bullets to the range yet & if so, what were your thoughts after shooting them. I have reloaded for a few years for rifle, and I am just beginning to reload for 9mm, so I am still very much open to new ideas (and these have "caught my eye".

Loaded up some Ares 125 gr for my 9mm. Started at 4.0 gr of IMR 7625 and worked up to 4.7 gr. Anything below 4.4 didn't cycle well in my Tanfoglio. The 4.7 cycles good. My Tanfoglio has polygonal rifling and I was not impressed with the accuracy. The barrel was super clean afterwards. Worked OK in my Brother-in-laws SR9 also. I will try some in my Shadow to see how they work. Still a work in progress to get a recipe with good accuracy. 124 gr Campro JHP are still my favorite bullet but the ARES look pretty cool.
