argos???

Each machine has its good points. Argo is intended for a carring a load/hauling and slower to get a aroundin compared to a quad. Quad lacks the spave to haul equipment on except when you use a trailer. If the snow is deep enough for a snowmoble, use that. Skidoo tundra is a great machine for hauling/carring equipment with a sleigh. I personnal have one of each and have used a argo for 20 years now. 6 wheel moves around a lot quicker but has less space than the 8 wheel. I have had both the 6 and 8 wheel and have gone back to the 8 wheel conquest. Only problem is no pull rope on it so once dead you start walking through this has not happened yet.

We have a recreational property way up in northern alberta that we used to access with a quad. In the summer, there is lots of muskeg that made quad access increasingly difficult depending on how wet a year it was. Access in the winter was not possible with the quad. We then went to an ARGO Conquest 8x8 with plastic tracks and while no where near as fast, it never once got stuck in the muskeg, even when loaded up with 1000 lbs of gear AND towing both immobile rinos and quads through the muskeg. Added bonus: we could access our property in the winter too! It was a pretty maintenance intensive machine though (700 hours and many thousands of dollars later) and was not too great on icy hills (the plastic tracks would slip, even with ice cleats).

This year we traded it in for a new Argo 6x6 Frontier with rubber tracks and it is an awesome machine for our purposes. It's never been stuck (only had it out in deep snow so far though). Some general points though:

Skid plate is manditory. Even though we don't do much travel over rocky terrain, sticks and stumps in the muskeg wreak havoc on the tub.

DON'T buy an argo that does not have the reinforced wheel bearing blocks on the front and back. On the models that don't have them, have seen many bent axels and leaking/seized bearings.

Tracks increase the utility of the vehicle a hundred fold. Travel in snow is easy as is travel through the nastiest peat. While the older plastic tracks are ok, the newer rubber ones haul bigtime.

Travel via ARGO is much slower than by either snow mobile or quad, however general carrying (easily takes my wife, two kids, and trailer full of camping stuff through the muskeg to our cabin in one trip) and nasty terrain is significantly improved.
