I can't make a fair comparasin between the two. I own a 1911 type in 45 ACP and have only shot a 40 S&W Glock. I'm partial to the 1911, just because I don't like the feel of the Glock grip. To me it's like squeezing a piece of cheese.

To me it's a matter of reliability. In the reliability department - and it's my experience, yours might differ - my Glock was practically malfunction-free: with any bullet shape. Would that that had been true for my 1911.

Otherwise, sure the grip on a single-stack 1911 feels better than the grip on a Glock.

Too many variables. Each one would be superior to the other in certain situations, it just depends what you are looking for.

Yes if you are looking for reliability get Glock .If you are looking for a hobby of tunning mags, matching springs and changing extractors then get a 1911 .

I have both... there is no comparision between price and dependability, I prefer my Glocks.

I also have both. I love 'em both.

But I'd have to give the Glock the edge. If they told me to pick one or the other, walk thru a door and potentially be in an engagement I'd pick up my Glock 22 .40 cal & be good to go...

I’m not a big fan if either…they are two completely different guns so it’s hard to answer your question. I voted for 1911 only because I like the looks of it better and not a fan of the Glock grip angle. But if I had to defend myself with a gun (1911 or Glock) I’d take the Glock.

If you want a fair comparison, compare Glock to HK and XD, even K100. 1911 is not really in the same category...

It's less than 12" long, capcble of use one handed, and makes little pieces of lead go thataway at useful speeds. How in the world are they nnot in the same category?

The theroetical evildoer that gets ventilated by said bits of lead certainly would argue that they are, in fact, the same category.

My SW1911 has fed everything including 165 JHP, 185 +P JHP, 200 grain SWC reloads and 230 grain ball and hollow points. The only exception was some Winchester NT when I had a shok-buff installed. Once the shok-buff was out the pistol returned to 100 per cent reliability.

Glocks in their current guise don't fit my hand at all. The finger grooves are too narrow. Gen II Glocks were my favourite but nothing fits me like an 1911 and there is no pistol I shoot better.

You're really comparing apples to oranges here. What do you want to do with it?

They are both very good in their own way.

Well OK one is a DAO the other is SA, one is polymer framed the other is steel, one design is an older 95 year old the other is a modern 25 year old, one has two external safeties the other has none and so on…..

How are they the same? Other than they are both handguns, are going to say that 1911 is in the same category as a revolver too?

1911 or Glock

I love Glocks, but I''ll have to go with a 1911. The Glock is simple, reliable, gunsmith-free and parts are cheap. The 1911 is all steel, fits right and tons of parts. Tough decision as these are my two favorite semis.

I picked 1911.......

I have had my Colt Delta Elite 10mm since 1987 and my Glock 20 10mm for about 2 years now as well as a Glock 19 9mm for several years.

Acurracy wise my 1911 Colt D/E is far more accurate than my G20 but has a lot of work done to it by Joe @ Dlask so is not a really fair comparison.

For reliability I would choose my G20 over the D/E everytime. Also due to having a wilderness handgun carry permit a handgun that is impervious to weather and sweat is very important and is why I now leave the D/E in the safe most of the time now.
