Hard not to like that! We'll freak'in done! One of the strongest actions ever made. I would rebarrel it and add quality irons and call it a day. That bolt is awesome as is.

Mazda began as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd, as a cork-making factory founded in Hiroshima, Japan, 30 January 1920. Toyo Cork Kogyo renamed itself to Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. in 1927. In the late 1920s the company had to be saved from bankruptcy by Hiroshima Saving Bank and other business leaders in Hiroshima.[11]
In 1931 Toyo Kogyo moved from manufacturing machine tools to vehicles with the introduction of the Mazda-Go auto rickshaw. Toyo Kogyo produced weapons for the Japanese military throughout the Second World War, most notably the series 30 through 35 Type 99 rifle. The company formally adopted the Mazda name in 1984, though every automobile sold from the beginning bore that name. The Mazda R360 was introduced in 1960, followed by the Mazda Carol in 1962.
^ that sounds like a very cool gun. Any idea when it was produced?
I would love to know the provenance on that.
Something of a unicorn, discussion of them on the web but no pictures to be seen
I love a classic sporter on an unusual milsurp action, the only ones that seem to follow me home were made in someone’s garage though

Arisaka barrels are chrome lined and that make them very tough and long lasting.
I did the same project with my 99, the receiver is very hard to drill and tap since i scoped i need it a carbide drill, replaced the bolt handle to clear scope and fitted in a basic walnut stock from R. Microfit.
Since hard time to find brass i resize and cut down to length 06 brass and use .303 150 gr. hornady spire bullets very satisfactory results.View attachment 533986View attachment 533991
