I few days ago I saw a Canadian collector's website selling an early production Japanese Type 99 rifle with intact mum, anti-aircraft sights and monopod for something like $950. Is this price accurate for the Canadian market or is the guy just being greedy?

I wish I could post an image of it, but the guy sold it. I think it was all matching. The metal bluing seemed to be in 65-70% condition. The stock had some very visible battle-wear on it... had a gash in the side that looked like a bullet might have just brushed it and the veteran who brought it back home from the war allegedly had carved "GUAM" on the right side of the butt stock.

its a right price i think.... mine is Nagoya serie 1 all match exept the bolt and dust cover, with aa sight, crome bore and bolt head, monopod stock is original finish, and i have the original sling i never want to sell it for -1000$ up here in canada its the right price...

I think you answered your own question...snooze you lose. Everyone who collects anything, (stamps, coins, playboy magazines) is subject to market pricing. For example, my Dad had a huge beer stein collection worth big bucks before 2007. The US economy went to pot and demand dropped big time. Mugs worth $300 a few moths before became $5 yard sale items.....

The value may come back, but it depends on supply and demand.

If you really want something and it is not an item you can buy at Target or Wal-Mart then the price or value is what you get a feel for and what you are willing to pay.

If I wanted a T99 to finish off my collection and if it was all original and had all the goodies, I'd pay it. They are not making them anymore.

But then again, I picked up a $300 Garand when they were selling for $250 and sold it tens years later for $1200 because I cold...just say'n
