Where have all the Arisaka's gone? Need one to complete my collection. When I'm not looking for one there are a handful on the EE board but when I need one they are all gone?
Good untouched Arisakas are difficult to find, especially in Canada it seems. I found this one last year on this forum, and grabbed it as soon as it came up. I too was looking for one correct and unmessed main battle rifle from each major player of the Second World War, and the Arisaka was the hardest to find in this condition.
Type 99, all matching, mum intact and comes with the momopod, AA sites, bayonet and frog, the previous owner threw in 2 boxes of ammunition. It's a sweet rifle, I will never shoot her, I don't think I could upgrade this one. They are nice rifles for sure. Good luck with your search, they are out there
I have found a "well seasoned" Tokyo arsenal Type 38 ($160) and a minty Toyo Kogyo Type 99 "Transitional" that I stole for $100 at local gunshows. The nice thing about collecting these rifles, is that a lot of sellers either don't know what they have, or they think they are crappy rifles. (We know better of course!!!!) I do agree, though, they are pretty scarce in Canada, which makes finding one all that much sweeter!
Picked up an Arisaka several years ago at a local gun show.
Siamese. ORIGINAL Siamese from back in the 1920s: zero parts interchangeable with my 38. Originally in 8x52R, not a conversion. Looked awful, smelled worse, leaked oil, scared the bejabbers outta a 4-litre paint bucket at 200.
I'm happy.
Fifteen bucks, with $7 trigger lock thrown in.
They are still out there. Just gotta keep looking.
joe n -I'm pretty sure I've seen yours up close (seriously tempted by it too) it's the nicest Arisaka I've ever seen, and though not common, I have seen a few.
It's the nicest I have seen as well, I bought it off a real decent guy here on the EE last year. Completed my quest to own one main battle rifle in original configuration from each major player of WW2
Other than this one, I have only seen one other Arisaka with an unaltered or ground MUM, and thant was in the US. Everything I have seen in Canada has been reworked or ground. Just not the interest here like there is in the US I suppose.

There are a few unground ones still around. Very pretty; mine is unground.
I have no idea where or when it was made. Four piled cannonballs stamp after s/n, something Japanese (which I do NOT read) before it, just a little mark. Poor old thing leaked motor-oil for a month after it came home! Not bad now and it REALLY likes Norma factory loads. Ouch!
