Just painted the stock on my HS Precision Pro2000 HTR.

I purchased Arma-Coat at the recommendation of several here on the site. When I spoke with the company representative he was kind enough to spend some valuable time giving me hints on how to prep and paint for the best possible finish.

As it turns out the local autobody shop offered up a corner of their facility to prep the stock, the I received a spot in the down draft spray booth to complete the project.

It still to early to re-assemble the rifle and as soon as I do I'll post some pics.

The rifle turned out great!

In addition, for those thinking about using this product, it sprays, adhears, and dries great.

The owner of this body shop (renouned for their hot-rod paint jods and a 30 year veteran) was very impressed with the quality of the paint, coverage, etc.

Pics to follow but she looks NICE in OD Green! :D

Not bad, My 300WM HS-Precision HTR will look more like the MarPat on top, haven't decided if ti'll be DuraCoated or Armacoated completely in the pattern.

Having problems finding bases since the screws are bigger than the average...any suggestions??

I have Nightforce HS precision bases in stock.

As Redleg indicated, you can get the Nightforce bases which are machined out for the 8-40 screws on your HS. This is done by them at the factory and like everything else Nightforce, is very well done.

You other option, which is the route I ended up with, is to get a rail (I ended up with a Badger 20MOA), then find a very very compitent gunsmith who can enlarge the holes with out making them to big, sloppy, or oblong. This can cause problems with the rail being true on your receiver.

My advice,,,,, call Redleg at The Shooting Edge, get the Nightforce which are already done right, bolt on and enjoy! :D

Thats a great job Black Cloud, guess my painting tips paid off on that one!!:p :D

If your putting that much work into it, and seeing how it worked so well in Summerland are you still having those delusional thoughts of selling it?:slap:

I think I'm keeping the HS, I don't think I'll get much better with a custom build after it paid a "visit to the man". Even if I sold it and coughed up $$$$$$$ for another full custom (to match the 300WM of course) I don't think I could shoot it much better than .5 to .25 MOA.

I've been tuning up the 175gr SMK load. I've only had it out to 300yards with the new batch since Summerland but its still holding less than .5 MOA.

I took Mysticplayers advice, got a concentricity gauge and a Lee Collet neck die. I've sized a batch with the Lee neck die, then loaded on my Redding S-type competition seater die. Throughout the process all specs out at less than .0002" on the concentricity gauge. Since I've been sorting out a few reloading gremlins things are coming together nicely:D :D :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

I am currently saving all my pennies for something in the range of that custom 338 Lapua AI :D

I may just end up keeping the Green Goblin:evil: (as my son has so aptly named it) and have "HWSNBN" throw a new barrel on it in the fall, Rock Creek M40 contour 5R :D

Wise decision BC I knew that rifle was a keeper when you let me try it:rockOn: . Im still trying to track down one of those bullet trimmers you told me about, havent found one yet where was it you got yours?

As far as the .338AI goes, after I saw what that puppy could do I kinda wish I went that route also, It may not reach quite as far as a .50BMG but where it does go it goes accurately and with hitting power, in comparison of ammo costs it is very affordable over a .50bmg for shooting volume. It is defiantly no slouch.

BC, there is a huge difference between Mechanical and Practical accuracy.

I bet that rifle all bagged up on a concrete bench with flags, etc would hold 1/4 to 3/8 MOA on a calm day at 300yds. A recent review of a similar rifle with top factory ammo showed the author had a hard time holding MOA.

You are doing just fine especially when you shoot off a pod in the field. Many shooters have a really hard time holding 1/2 MOA at LR with top quality gear off a bench let alone on their bellies off a pod.

Just remember that you connected on the Gopher with regularity at 1000yds. No flags, moderate gusty winds, yada yada yada. That is great PRACTICAL accuracy.

For a working rifle, I don't think the intent is to hit the third knuckle on the left hand. Just get the target down. That your rifle will do very convincingly.

The next rifle should exploit all the new tech in ballistic technology. Who knows, the 408CT may get the bugs worked out by then.

Now you got some very interesting ballistics.

Jerry

PS If you haven't done so, try the 155gr Scenar. LR accuracy is greatly limited by the consistency of your bullet. The Lapua are certainly a superbly built bullet and will hold 1/2 MOA or better at 1KM. I bet LR ballistics will be better then the 175gr MK load presently being used.

Jerry your studdering, must be that BC beef your eating:p  :D

I had some High hopes for the .408CT and it was a contender in my purchase decision, but I dont think it has lived up to the hype I now believe it to be more hype than hitter, probably generated by all the press and ooooh factor that it couldnt live up to. In my opinion that .338AI has shown itself to have some very high potential.

just a thought.

Mysticplayer, thanks:D

As for the next puchase, I'm waiting for my 300WM to come out of the barn:dancingbanana: , then I'll move up to the heavy hitters.

My wife asked for an eliptical trainer, in return I could get another rifle built:D :D :D :D :D :D How could I go wrong, I have a great wife :adult:

I've looked at the 408ct, the lack of availability of brass and bullets scares me.

338 Edge looks like it has some promise but my heart still lies with the 338 Lapua Ackley Improved.

I'll certainly be doing more research before I plunk down cash on another custom.

I have been, however, eyeing up a Dakota T76 action:evil: After playing with LRC'S ATRS built Dakota I'm really surprised, thats an incredibly well machined action. Its pure artwork! Its a real toss up between that and the Nesika.

Oh well, for a change I went and hammered 400 rounds through my pistol this afternoon. Great relaxation!
