LRC, if recent Future Weapons show is correct, the CT program has been rebuilt with REAL results. Still a major wildcard as options are limited but not much worse then so many of the cutting edge boomers. Time will tell.

the 416Barrett is interesting too IF bullets come up. A smaller case version could easily be made to avoid near and future BMG component issues.

Then the quest for a better US Army mousetrap may generate all sorts of other interesting choices. 375 has been bantered around quite a bit too. Now there is this new Ruger case.....

BC, if extreme range shooting is the main goal, a 7mm is the way to go right now. Pretty hard to beat the ballistics of the 180gr Berger at 3000fps and above.

All you need is a 7RM in a 30" barrel. Dirt cheap, very accurate and ballistically, well ahead of any 300WM combo. LRC, not a jab - remember I own a 300RUM.

If you want horsepower, consider the 338-416Rigby improved. Think 338-378Wby with no belt and sharp shoulders (120 to 130gr case). Same brass cost and quality as the Lapua. Same custom die costs so why not get 100 to 200fps more go.

Then you can go nuts and step up to the 338 408 CheyTac. Again, no difference in component and set up cost but you can drive that 300gr MK to over 3300fps in a 30" barrel. Approx 135 to 150gr of powder.

How fast do you want to go???????

Bullets like the new 208gr Amax are going to quickly change suitable combos for LR shooting. Hornady is hinting they may bring out a 338gr Heavy too.

Jerry

PS if you stick to the magnum family of cartridges, get yourself a large shank Savage action and you can spin on ANY cartridge you want to try - RUM, Lapua, Lazzeroni, WBY, Rigby/Gibbs and the many wildcats based off these cases. Just mod the bolt head to fit.
