I have an Armalite m15 Competition 13.5in that should be arriving shortly on order, Was Just wondering if anyone has had some time behind one of these? Appreciate it.

3 of my shooting buddies are all rocking these, but with the 18" barrel, I've had some time behind one of them, it will need a mega cleaning once you get it, they are jam packed full of oil and grease, it did have a little bit of a break in period, tolerances may have been a smide too tight, he also experienced some issues with LAR mags not feeding properly, we tried 3 different brands, I told him to polish his feed ramps up good and he thinks it might have solved the problem, he's had no issues with p mags,

The second buddy just got his and it's already on the way back to the dealer, either the lower of the luth stock was out of spec, you could not charge the rifle, the charging handle would hit the stock right away, if you really tugged you could get it to come but then the charging handle and bolt would stick to the rear unless you manually pushed the charging handle forward again. So he got a bit of a lemon which is too bad considering the price.

And third buddy has also had no issues that Iam aware of, it's been all cerakoted a different colour now and seen many rounds.

Also if you plan to play with the adjustable gas block at some time turn the screws every 50 rounds or so, after a few hundred rounds it took a torch and a day of penetrating oil to get them to move

That is very helpful info Craigory, Thank you. Im hoping mine will run LAR mags, I have a few diff brands to try atleast. I handload (run 55gr and 77gr) so I will probably set the gas block and leave it more than likely. Thanks again man.

Ordered mine pre-production. Got it. Shot it. Great gun. Clean it? Umm, no. Shot it. 13.5", mounted my scope and went to town. No farther than 200 yards to date, sub moa with norinco rounds. Indoors the beast roars! The muzzle flash is obscene! Enjoy!

I have seen a few videos of it shooting indoors, Reminds me of the old 80's flicks with HUGE muzzle flash.

I have the 18" version. Zero complaints. Good to go out of the box. I have a lot of AR's and it is in my top 3 fave to shoot.

Has anyone with this rifle played with the adjustable muzzle brake (ie, drilling holes in the removable screws to fine tune etc)?

Is the rifle good to go out of the box or does it need any goodies beyond a scope?

Is it well balanced or front heavy?

I should be getting mine this coming week. I plan on puttin a bunch of rounds down the pipe right away. I can get back to you and let you know how it goes Sniffer.

I'm curious. The M15 is on my potential shopping list which, as it stands, has been narrowed down to Armalite M15, DD V7 Pro or my own build.

I`m thinking of the 18" version for rifle length gas (lower recoil) but I`ll be curious to hear how the 13.5" handles as it would be more nimble for sure

So I'm guessing yours has the brake pinned & welded to make it 16" (compliant for entry to the USA)?

Yes it will have the welded Armalite Brake. Since it has an adjustable gas block I would think you could tune it down to have same recoil impulse as the Rifle Length gas system, I could be wrong though.

For an out of the box rifle I would think it would be pretty tough to beat. Has an excellent trigger (Timney) which I would assume would be better than a DD and overall the rifles would probably cost around the same. I will for sure leave a post in this thread to give you an update on how it feels and shoots when it shows up(I have been waiting for almost 4mths!). I have seen quite a few posts and articles saying it shoots insane groups (1/4ish MOA).

Please do - I'm curious

Ive read reports where people have gotten their 18" race guns with rifle length gas systems tamed to the point that recoil is reduced to almost 22LR levels and have wondered if a shorter more manageable rifle like yours could be tuned to the same degree with the adjustable gas block (even if it meant using a low mass BCG etc too)

Regarding the trigger, the DDV7 Pro comes with a Geissele 3 gun trigger as standard so it would be pretty close between the two guns. Your Armalite is a 223 Wylde which is pretty much a full on match barrel as I understand it where the DD is a CHF 5.56 which seems to get good reviews too

Oh really, I had no idea that the DD came with a Geisselle. I would have thought they had a mil-spec one. From what I have heard you cant go wrong with DD. I had an upper from them and it shot quite nice even though it was not free float.

Only the "Pros" (which seem to be geared towards 3 gun) have the Geissele Automatics Super Dynamic 3 Gun Trigger, I think other DD`s have Geissele`s too but some are just Mil spec

That looks very nice. . I actually have the same butt stock and pistol grip thats on that rifle. I prefer adjustable LOP vs a Fixed stock. You get an excellent cheek weld with it that stock on the DD you linked and the pistol grip is decent as well. I would think that rifle would shoot!

Yes, both seem like excellent choices - I'm sure either would shoot better than me - wish I lived somewhere I could handle them to help make my mind up

Only upgrade I can see both may require would be a low mass BCG to further mitigate recoil

I was thinking about getting a JP BCG but I am not sure If I want full mass, low mass or variable. Also perhaps a JP Silent Buffer too. Hopefully its here on Tuesday (July 3rd) and I can give better hands on info cause I am anxiously awaiting its arrival.

So Sniffer, I got it today. the 13.5" does not feel front heavy to me at all. It is also quite a bit lighter than I expected it to be with the heavy barrel. The fit and finish are excellent. I will be taking it out to the range tomorrow hopefully and I can give you some info on how the rifle performs. I will more than likely upgrade the BCG and perhaps swap out the buffer to a JP Silent. The one thing I notice that is a con is the adjustable gas block is TIGHT, Craigory is correct in pointing that out. The gas block is open all the way it looks like, If I cannot manage to get it too budge it will not have a detrimental effect will it? I assume it will just be overgassed like a standard m4, correct?
The Daniel Defense furniture I put on is very nice In my opinion. I far prefer it over the fixed Luth stock they come with.

Sounds pretty nice! Pictures are cool too..... ;)

Did you swap out the furniture yourself? Been hearing good things about the JP Silent.

If the adjustable gas block cannot be adjusted cos its too tight then you won't be able to adjust it down so it just dumps enough gas to cycle the bolt. I`d guess this is pretty important to reducing recoil. From what you describe right now the block is set so it sends the max amount of gas to the BCG (so it'll cycle reliably but at the cost of excessive recoil)

Let us know how it handles/shoots tomorrow

I will attempt to post pictures on here as well. I think with the proper tool or something to hold a strong enough Allen Key it will budge, The tool I had was not strong enough. I also have a can of Kroil just in case too. I will mount the Elcan Specter os4x as well and see how it fits. I have a leupold VX-6 Multigun 1-6x w/Larue 1.5" listed in the EE (might not be such a bad thing if it doesn't sell) that I threw on just to see and it fit great with the eyepiece being just the right height.
When it comes to BCG, I am not sure which I should go with Mass wise. They also make an Adjustable BCG with different weights but I dont want to go that way. I assume reliability can be an issue in certain cases with weaker ammo if you go with low mass? This may be a dumb question but since only mil-spec parts work on it will a JP Low Mass or different aftermarket BCG work or will I be stuck using M16 style ones? I appreciate the help.
