So, after a CQB clinic where I had to do fast mag changes with gloves on and knowing that I'll be shooting prone where 5/30 mags are ok and can be used as monopods, sold the T97 and am switching to the AR platform. Looking for a budget one since it'll either get sold or cosmolined indefinitely in November, so I don't wanna sink too much cash into it, maybe get a comp. Not looking for a Norinco as I may go south of the border to play. Narrowed my options on the budget to CORE15 and Armalite, currently leaning more toward Armalite, but it's not set in stone. Usage would be 3gun, CQB and Service Conditions. My current thoughts..

Armalite is reputed to be very accurate, reliable, nice general-purpose trigger. Not sure if the 2-stage will be a drawback in multigun and the heavy barrel might be an issue for transitioning for target to target and running long CoF's. Already comes with a brake, not sure how good it is. Yes I know what it'll do to me when I shoot modified prone in the dirt lol
CORE15 only comes with a flash hider and I read quite a few complaints about the trigger, so I'd have to spend the $$$ on a trigger and a brake, putting me in the STI price range (that's already WAY overbudget, plus a bit long for day to day CQB activities)

I'd appreciate any input on these choices and if you have some other options in the price range, I'm willing to listen. Thanks in advance everyone.

Mods: I know I posted something nearly identical in Action Shooting, but I'd like to read a bit from a broader group of people since in Canada most action shooters I've come across don't touch long guns. If you have to delete one, please delete this one, but I'd appreciate you leaving both alive and well.

I am selling my core15. I haven't had any issues. Gun looks good on the field strip, and has a lifetime warranty, even for second owners. I can stand behind core15s. If i wasnt going for a g36 this is what I would have run for a very long time.

I can vouch for the core15. It doesn't have a 4150 barrel, but it is chrome lined, the finish on them are great, the carrier key is properly staked, at least on the example I saw, and I have tried swapping bolts as a test fit, and I can confirm bcm and dd bolts also fit in there. Armalites are quite nice too, but the core15s lifetime warranty is what appeals me to it.

Did you stretch its legs? How's the trigger on it? (I don't wanna spend the extra cash on a new trigger - money I'd rather spend on ammo)

Thanks meike.. Now you've made my job more difficult lol I like the idea of a lighter rifle for running and gunning as long as the accuracy's there. Service conditions matches can go out pretty far.

I have 1200 rounds behind one, no mag issues, it runs msar, pmags, gi mags, and lar, and plastic 50 beowulf mags just fine. Never tried metal beo mags or hk roller steel mags.

The trigger in the one I tried was absolutely excellent. Not a geisselle ssa or kac stage match, but it is definitely better than some of the gritty #### that I have tried in some other ar15s. It's more like a single stage trigger, short pull crisp break consistant and nice reset.

Thanks.. Distance wise, how far did you take her? Did you test her groupings?
It's a 2-3 moa gun with bulk ammo. The one I am selling I have tried as far as 200m. With magnified scope i got 1.5 moa out of standard winchester white box at 100m. Most of the time the gun had a red dot with a 1mrad dot on it. Depending on what optic you are running the gun has servicable accuracy. It's no threat to a 3k match rifle. Then again it doesnt cost 3k either. It's not free floated. Another thing I forgot to mention is it is good to go with 5.56 nato ammo, the armalites IIRC are not.

Armalite's chambered for 5.56, so no issues there. Not planning on doing a private sale. At least the lower will be coming from a dealer as I don't have enough Barnaul 7.62x39 to last me through the Ontario CFO approving a private sale.

No tested groupings, I shot it with a zeiss red dot to 50m. Off shoulder, I have never benched the gun. It's a service rifle design, and I shot it as such, the gun I shot did not have a heavy match barrel or anything, it was the base magpul edition gun. I recommend it, I would agree with the above assesment that the gun is probably 1.5 moa unless it gets free floated to better, but I have no data to prove it.

1.5 is something I could live with. As long as I get 2-3, that's good enough for any competition that I'll be doing with it at my skill level. By the looks of it, it'll be CORE15, now just gotta decide who to order from... Tough choice having a bunch of great dealers supporting this site and I've had good dealings with 3 who carry it :D
