Thanks. Everybody says its well worth it but was trying to figure out what you get for the extra $140 over a stock Norc from Marstar.
 
Let's see; on mine - amazing trigger, absolutely reliable (feeds anything close to the correct OAL- 5,500 rounds w/zero failures) and will cleanly deposit the contents of a full mag into the head of a B27 target at 25 yards, leaving a rather ugly ragged hole. Frankly the trigger is worth $140, the rest is just icing. But (at least on mine) it included aforementioned trigger job, extractor tune (properly done, with radius) and tension, polish feedramp and throat barrel, clean up breechface and clean up disconnector, and what appeared to be a minor tweak to the barrel fit. Worth it? you bet, that 25 yard accuracy is amazing for a Commander with me shooting it.
 
Called this morning and spoke with Gunnar. I have one his new tunned Commander on the way. Not a big fan of the square trigger guard but it's not that bad. We'll see.
 
I purchased a used Commander sized Para .45 a few months ago from Gunnar. Well-tuned and a very sweet shooter. This was not my first purchase from him.

No regrets buying from Gunnar at all but maybe a bit of a price premium to pay for quality work.

I find his norco prep tune is HIGHLY REASONABLE, considering I paid 250 for a NP29, had him tune it AND get rid of the markings for another 200. For 450 bucks, I have a 9mm 1911, with the same SHOOTING quality than another brand that is twice as much in cost.
 
The only thing worth paying for is the trigger job. You have to ask yourself, does every last trigger need to be tuned? Some of them might come from the factory with a perfect trigger. I know, it's a long shot, but you never know. I wouldn't order a tune-up unless there's an obvious need for it. It's a lot like that extended warranty they try to tag on at Future Shop.

I bought an STI, and asked him to adjust the trigger to 4 lbs. It occured to me afterward that STI ships their guns with a 3-5 lb trigger, and it was sort of needless even worrying about it. I'm not knocking Gunnar, because his work seems to be good, but guns are like any other machine. You can go broke buying options, and it doesn't change the value of the machine, except in the mind of the owner.
 
On a Colt, Kimber, Springfield, etc... you may be right. On a Norinco, I think its a fair assumption that a tune up will make an improvement.:D

I disagree. I've shot a few non tuned norinco 1911's and the triggers were terrible. I've also owned two tuned by Gunnar and both had very nice triggers considering that no parts were changed.
 
EDIT: from gunnar about 1911 tuning

"Tighten and lap frame to slide (slightly different on plated guns), smooth up breech face and underside of slide, prep and tune extractor, polish inside of slide where top of barrel rubs, add a polymer shock buffer, check and adjust thumb and grip safeties as needed, remachine hammer and sear surfaces, polish disconnector and set trigger pull to 4.5 - 5.0 lbs (crisp) or more if requested. We function test with factory 230 grain ammo as well as 200 grain lead semiwadcutter reloads, test fire with both types of ammo as well when it isn’t -40!. Polish and throat the frame and barrel for feeding as required. We check little stuff like making sure the grips fit snugly, and that plunger housings are staked correctly.


All this work if done separately comes to well over $200, but if we do it at once – and we do three or four at least at the same time, it’s included in all our Norinco 1911’s. We offer it as a service on your Norinco (or Springfield, or Colt or… and trust me, these need it too) at $130 including return shipping…"
