hey arms 18 owners...i need a hand doing the final installation step for the mount on my m14. my instruction say "loosen the front socket screw, but do not remove" check, did that then... "adjust the front tension button bushing by inserting a jewlers screw driver or scribe in the notch in the top of the bushing, and turning down until the button contacts the front ring of the reciver." this is the part i dont understand, i cant figure out a way to make the thing screw down..where am i supposed to put the jewlery screw driver? any help would be appreicated from people who have an arms 18 thanks.
-area of interest (sorry it isnt very clear) -whats the little bronze thing for?

sorry guys, i figured it out myself....i guess the screwdriver end has to be place on the end of one of the notches and then pushed really hard to make the entire thing turn down. sorry for the trouble. as an aside....the arms mount looks great, almost like its part of the reciver. (it dosnt take away from the sleek look of the gun like most mounts do.)

While you are looking at the set screw to prevent that pad from loosening... I've found that this set screw contacts the handguard. So being the cheap bastard that I am, I did not want to sacrifice and cut/grind up a USGI handguard. I went down to Home Depot and found the same diameter set screw ... about 1/4" long, I think and then I replaced the ALLEN head set screw. The short little one fits and it's almost FLUSH with the ARMS mount.

Like my goaltending on the ice, "Sometimes it's better to be LUCKY than GOOD." LOL

Cheers,

OK, so I got my pad to go down somehow, and my rifle shot way low, like 4 feet! My scope adjustment leaves just 12" more up. So, I have to get the pad back up.

So, how do I get the pad to go back up, i.e. be flush with the mount? The little bronze thingie ("bushing"?) turns freely with the pad, but the pad doesn't move either way up or down. What about the inner screw? I can get the thing to turn, but only about like 20 degrees max. No matter what kind of force I apply, it won't turn further clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Would the red Locktite I used be the culprit (I didn't have any blue handy)??

Looking down at the mount, which way is the bushing (is it the bronze thingie, or the inner screw??) supposed to be turned to get the pad "up"?

Thanks!!!

Red locktite? You might as well have welded it.

Yeah, but the front socket screw came out nice and easy, and all the parts on the front tension button move. So, I doubt it could be that. The pad itself just won't move up or down. It rotates just fine. It just doesn't go anywhere.

Do I have to apply pressure to it while I turn it to get the threads to engage???

Thanks.

What, I expected answers on a long weekend!

Hope everyone had a good one.

I decided to grind down the front pad so it was flush with the mount; didn't make any difference. Seems the mount itself is a little "off", i.e. the front end is high and doesn't contact with the receiver.

I know, I know, this is probably correct. So, my problem may lie elsewhere, perhaps in the QD rings??

So, my solution was to shim the rear ring. Problem resolved.

Thanks!

Sight Picture

Can somebody with an ARMS #18 mounted please post a picture looking from the rear of the rifle? I want to see how useable the iron sights are with an ARMS #18 mounted.

I'll take a pic for you tomorrow, but the irons are usuable just fine, as long as the scope isn't still mounted, i.e. the set-up is not see through.
