last advice I read was "2 coils of the smaller extractor spring and 3 coils off the ejector spring, seems to be the ticket with chinese bolts" (courtesy of the artist previously known as M14Doctor), but that was for the batch of >2 years ago.

has anyone done this with a more recent production M305? does the advice still hold? is there a new 'prescription' for this symptom?

I actually did that on my 2007 Norinco and ended up with an ''exploding'' bolt: the ejector spring did not apply enough pressure on the extractor to keep it in place. The extractor would pop-out after I shot. I recommend removing one coil at a time to avoid such a situation.

I bought M14 springs from Wolff and had to cut down the ejector spring to fit the nork bolt.

The extractor sat out so far that the bolt would not hold a dummy cartridge on the face flush, there was always a gap between the base of the cartidge and the face of the bolt. That includes putting a crap load of pressure trying to overcome the ejector spring. It just would not go.

My only guess is that the channel in the bolt is not to spec and I can either trim the springs (I bought spares) or buy a USGI bolt and have it lapped to match.

Having said that, I have had mine for over 10 years and have had no problems until now. Barney looked at it at an impromptu clinic at his house around 03/04.

I have found that most wolfe springs need fitting except the oprod spring.
I run wolfe springs exclusively when I have them.
I've had to shorten the hammer spring, ejector and extractor, to bring them to USGI specification for length.

The general rule for the chinese bolt spring is 2 maximum of the extractor(small spring) and 3 off the ejector.

But there are always exceptions.
