Well guys, I decided to go with a smith 2024 mount for my m14 and would like to use arms #22 rings. What I'm wondering is due I buy low, med or high rings? What are you guys using?

It really depends in which scope you are using, but 90% of the time the mediums are your best match for the #2024.
Low might work but more than likely the scope will be sitting on the rear sight aperture

GG&FB

depends on the size of the scope bell at the rear ....
too low and the bell will touch or limit travel on the rear sight.
PS:
I have a set of ARMS # 22 HIGH rings for sale in the EE.

DO NOT GET MEDIUM - GET LOW. Made that mistake, one thing you may have to do is pull out the rear sight (sacrelidge I know) but it does get that scope as low as possible to the barrel.

ONE OTHER THING - make sure why you install that mount that you get machinist tolerances for those bolts. They give you ridiculously low torques on those bolts and 200 rounds later the scope mount is flexing. I used a bit of red locktight to stop the stripper clip mount from loosening. Remember that bolt is knocking right beside it every round and it works to loosen that little pin like a impact gun. It's frustrating as hell to be putting holes 1.25" apart at 200m and then suddenly your 6" appart all beacuse of under-torquing..... trust the idiot that went through that :)

HA one other thing, make sure you get a cheek bag. Yer gonna need it, on a stock scope I found I needed at least a 1.5" lift. that is unless you shoot from the hip with your eyes closed :)

Well I already bought medium rings , so I guess I will try them first. The scope I'll be using for now is burris fullfield II 3-9x40 wtih the BP reticle. This is until I can get one of those falcon merlin 4-14x42 scope.

I did the same thing - then just swallowed the cost of the badger rings, It's not so bad for sitting and kneeling shots, but prone sucks your head feels like a periscope after a bit. Feel like you have to put a phonebook on your stock to get your head up high enough.

Anichlow...why would i get low quick release rings if i have to remove my rear site; thats why i want quick release in the first place so i can remove the rings/scope and shoot with my irons sometimes! I currently have leopold quick release rings but the release levers sometimes deflect brass back into the action and cause a stoppage. They are Med and perfect hight, i just drop the rear sight all the way down and the scope fits just overtop...nice and low. Has anyone had problems with the arms levers getting in the way of brass? they look like they are pretty tight to the rings and shouldn't get in the way.

Ya, but unfortunately the leopold rings wont lock on the left side so they sit on the right side and get in the way. Is there any other quick release rings that will work on an arms 18 other than the arms 22 rings? When i got the Leopold ones i just assumed that anything would work, i guess i was wrong.

You can order some levers from Bronells that replace the round nuts, and turn standard weaver rings into QR. They actually work pretty good, and are cheap too.

PS: where are the Leupold QRWs interfering with the ARMS ...
got pics??

I actually dont have any pics of my m14 with those rings on (i cant take any either because im currently away from my collection for a few more months :( ) But basically the levers wont lock down on the left side so they are on the right side (they hit the mount before they will turn all the way in to lock). The levers stick out a bit too far i guess because every 10 rounds or so a piece of brass with be deflected into the chamber. With the rings detached and only the arms18 on the gun there are zero problems.

Bob, you can pull the leupold QR levers out a 1/4" or so, and reindex them on the hex nut underneath. That way you can tighten them down pretty far. I use a Leupold QRW Medium as my QR flasllight mount, and it hits the handguard when tightened in. So I just keep moving the lever around to index at the bottom half of the set up.

Ya, i recall them being able to do that....i dont remember if i discovered that before or after i remounted the rings on the right side tho. When i get home i will have to remount and check. thanks for the reminder though, i totally forgot about that. Im not sure if there was another problem or not that did not allow the rings to clamp down on the left. I hope its that easy.

-ps...sorry for stealing the thread.
