Howdy, folks.

Finally, after months and months of not getting to the range, got my chopped M14 out to play. I'm running an ARMS 18 mount with an ancient Weaver K3. Kinda retro-troglodyte, sure, but I like it.

At 50 yards, the rifle shoots six to eight feet high. The scope has a definite downhill slope to it that I originally thought was just an optical illusion, but appears to be all too feckin' real. The scope and mount were professionally installed by a shop here in Alberta, by a guy who's done a lot of 'em.

I am, of course, planning on returning the whole shebang to the shop for correction, but is this typical of this setup? The mount has a great rep, aside from weird receiver geometries that are in no way the fault of the folks at ARMS, and a search of this site has shown no one else with up and down issues with the mount...

Ideas? Is there a quick fix?

The mount is rock feckin' solid - nothing missing or broken, near as I can tell.

There is a screw at the front of the mount - aside from touching the top of the receiver, does it serve a purpose?
 
crank it in more while the mount is a touch loose... it might help with adjustment. after all, it's already out of alignment, what's the worst that could happen?

Try loosening up the stripper clip bolt and tap it left or right depending on witch way it's out. Now if it's elevation (meaning it's shooting to high) then at the front you will see a retainer clamp that has to be removed in order to screw in or out depending on how far it's out. This is were I find a laser bore sighter to come in handy. Once it's were you want it just lock it all down with some red lock tight. I say this cuz M14 receivers's have massive recoil and since you are going to be mounting optics you don't want to loose zero.
 
I installed myne today. Check out the thread i posted, i followed the instructions to a tee and it's solid. If you don't follow the instrustions exactly it's not going to install correctly. There is a link to the instructions if you don't have them.


You should use a torque wrench too... Tech at wolverine said 65 inch pounds, instructions say 90 not to exceed 100 or it could be damaged.
