I can't get the hex screw back in on the front of the mount. Has anyone had this problem?

Will it hold zero or will the front post loosen?

Pics of mods would be cool!

Dremel dude....dremel. take off the hand gard, give'r a lill whittling and slap it back to geather:)

yup, that's the trick.
you don't need to remove your mount if it's on solid. just undo your gas assembly and slide it forward, do same with handguard.... with the arms 18 and other scope mounts installed, this is the easiest and cleanest way to remove the handguard.
put a piece of masking tape on the back end of the handguard at the mount screw location so you can make marks where to clearance for the screw.
gently dremel or use a rat tail file to create a small recess is the surface of the handguard between the marks on the masking tape.
when yer done, slide her back on to the barrel and check for clearance with a thin piece of paper.

M14doctor sez it right. Saved me a bunch of typing :D. Now here's another approach for that set screw so that you don't have to chop up that handguard.

I replace that allen head screw (it's 6 x 32 tpi, IIRC) and and use a 1/4" long set screw of the same thread pitch. I found a bunch of them at Home Depot many years ago. I gave a bunch out to people who needed them at clinics and I'm now on the hunt for a few more. Yeah, a short headless set screw is all you need in there. Place that factory screw in a little zip-loc bag and keep the instructions together, that's what the bag is for. ;)

Hope this helps the addiction.

Thanks to Hungry and M14Doctor I did the same thing for my mount.

By the way Hungry, I may be able to get a bunch of those set screws if you are interested.

You guys rock. I have the Dremel ready but I think I'll look for the screw first. Thanks for the help. Weather has been the S&*ts here so I haven't been to the range with my new affliction. Maybe Sunday but I'll need snow shoes as the range tractor is broken so the road is under 40 cm of snow.

I'm interested in having a few dozen in my toolbox to pass out. For the newbies to the ARMS18, it's my favorite after screwing around with all the cheaper mounts over 25 years.

PM me and let's see what we can arrange!

FWIW, I always replace the socket head cap screw they come with for a hex set screw that doesn't protrude (see Home depot or any good fastener store) and then you don;t have to bugger up your handguard.
