Hi all,

Would you recommend an Armsan 612 shotgun to a first time buyer, over other affordable models, like the Hatsan Escort.

A local shop offered me a left handed Hatsan Escort Semi in camo for 995$. It as quite light, comfortable. Comes with 5 chocked and (what felt like) good rubberized grip pads. About the pads, wonder how long they'd last. Don't know enough about it to say if it's a good deal or firearm that would last a few years. Don't think I want to spend that much right away, unless it's good value.

I'm new to shooting sports/hunting. I have been to a couple clay pigeon shooting ranges lately and I really enjoyed it. I thought my first firearm would be a rifle, but I think I'm leaning towards a 12ga.

If you have any other recommendations, I'd be very grateful.

Please note: I have fired right handed shotguns comfortably, so that may not necessarily be a deciding factor. If you believe I can get better value from another brand/model, please feel free to reply to this thread.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Tradex has the 612L for 695. IMHO you will be hard pressed to get a better bang for the buck than the armsan. There is a great review on the board about it, fantastic pictures and discription. I don't think the hatsan is a bad gun but unless you want the camo ? I'd go with the A612L

I have seen that review. Would prefer a camo version, however, I'm not going to be too choosy since my budget is restricted. I've considered buying used, but I'm concerned I would know what to look for in a used shotgun.

Bump to see if anyone else have something to contribute.

Also have been looking into a better quality pump action instead of a "cheaper" semi. Probably a Mossberg 500 three barrel combo. Saw one for just under 700$. I figure, if I can get something reliable, simple, comfortable (fit) and still have $$$ for other accessories (camo clothing, calls, packs, case, etc.). I'd be better suited.

I assume most would prefer a semi over a pump for hunting. (if the budget allowed for it). Almost pulled the trigger (pun intended) on a Stoeger M3500 (Didn't know they were owned by Benelli). Seems like a popular model for a reliable sub 1000$ semi shotgun.
