Was looking through the web and found this site(guess old manufacturer of Squires Bingham)

Does anyone own the M1600, semi auto.22 replica of M-16? Had a Squires Bingham .22 years ago and was nice for plinking but did not look like that.

http://www.armscor.com.ph/autorifle.htm

Just thought I would ask as I did not know if they were available and if they are an accurate shooter.

Thanks

Me I love mine is really reliable (shoot minimum 1000 ammo before it need a clean up) the accuracy is well for a semi auto, I better like this rifle of my ruger 10/22 and I can buy a other one anytime.

Mine is reliable, but a piece of junk. Would fire and not jam. However, the carry handle routinely fell off, the forestock was some mystery wood-like product that made Norinco wood seem like solid walnut in comparison. They really, really, REALLY are pieces of junk.

Haven't fired it for ages...

I know this an old post...but this brings back memories....

I had a 1600 and 1600r (bought from Woolco I think) back in my late teens. Fun to shoot, but after about 10k rounds it started to act up. Of course, I knew nothing about care and maintenance. I just wiped off the powder and put in a drop of oil every now and then when the action started to sieze up.

Accuracy was not that great. I did better on a Cooey model 60 with a bent rear sight, but then my target skills leave lots to be desired.

After the 15k mark, bad things would happen...really bad jams, or full auto bursts which usually ended in a cartridge detonation with the bolt open. One of those detonations finished off the rifle, which turned the 1600 into a parts gun for the 1600r.

I still have 2 or 3 of the magazines specific to the 1600...and a few others without the plastic block on the bottom. Not sure why I kept them after I retired both rifles, but they're still in my toolbox, 17 years later.

I wouldnt buy one again. Rifles like the 10/22 seem to be better quality...and you can customize the heck out of them.

I've seen these things before too, but I haven't seen one in Canada. The website doesn't list any dealers up here either. I wonder how much they cost? Even if they are inaccurate and jam up, if they're cheap enough I'd probably still get one just for fun-factor, y'know? I'd go for the AK clone, incidentally :p Something tells me the plastic grip on the M1600 would feel like cheese...

I had the other one

I had an M20P the non-M16-like version. There's a new word. It was pretty reliable and had minute of pop can accuracy. I sold it. I knew a guy who had the M1600 one, don't remember how it performed. I thought it looked a bit corny.

I got the M16R model. Wouldn't trade it for the world. I've yet to have a jam or any other problems. I think all you guy's got lemons. Accurate too for a short bbl. And if nothing elese, it's fun and has a LCF.

I doubt either of mine were lemons. They didnt perform well for a time. Though they both eventually failed, it was from abuse more than anything else.

For accuracy, that peep site might not have worked for me, and the Bushnell 3-9x40 scope I added later was not the best quality. (paid $40 I think)

Am I the only one here who DOESNT have a hardwood floors? :)

never had problem with mine I cleaned it every 750 shots, it love winchester wildcat.

I bought mine from an original owner (late 1980's?). He never got on the registration bandwagon and eventually stopped using it. I got it verified, registered and bought it.

So nobody in canada sells them new? That's too bad, they look/sound like fun. The company website does say they're looking for qualified dealers around the world, I wonder if marstar or some other vendor would be willing to pick them up?

Doubtfull. As you can see they don't have a very good rep. I was lucky enough to spy mine used at a local shop. Got an extra mag too. Big thing is to keep them cleen and use hi vilocity .22's (though rem sub-sonics seem to function fine in mine).

Well I'm gonna try anyways! :D Norinco has a (sort of) bad rep too, but they sell just fine. Someone's gotta be willing to import them if there's enough of a market for them, which I'm sure there is. In my personal experience, people who buy guns aren't stupid, they do their research and they know what they're getting when they lay down their cash, whether it's a cheap chicom plinker or a fine swedish/german/russian sporting arm, y'know? Of course, there are exceptions, but on the whole your average firearm consumer is well-informed enough to not freak out and take the gun back when their cheap .22 stove-pipes a spent case, y'know? That being said, I'm not in the firearms business, so there's a fair chance I could be way off in my analysis of the situation  I'm gonna try anyways dammit!

squires m1600

I bought one of these funny little assault rifles,.m16 bingham.Has a black wooden stock,10 shot clip.Peep sight and gun sling, for 75.00 It has never jamned or stove piped. It is also more acurate than my 10 22.If I find another one, I will buy it just for the pure fun of them.:)
