Well was out playing with my 12.5" Armseast upper yesterday, and man it rules.

12.5" seems to be the best bang for the buck out of a carbine length Upper, decent velocity while maintaining enough barrel length ahead of the gas port for reliable running and still a compact rifle.

Accuracy with the open sites was very good (2-3" at 100 yds off the bench), I am awaiting optics and optic mounts to come so will be putting either a eotech 553 or an aimpoint ml3 depending what arrives first.

I LOVE IT !!

- Stag Upper with barrel cut to 12.5"
- Samson Free Float Quad Rail
- YHM Flip Up Sight front gas block
- Surefire G2 with VLOTR Flasglight Mount
- Midwest Rear Flip up Sight, (probably switch out for Arms40L or Troy)
- magpull Rail Covers
- Lower is my registered Homebuilt with magpull MIAD and CTR, KNS Pin keeper's, DD Carbine Single Point Sling Mount and a BFG Push Button Adapter and of course Questars 10 Round Pistol Mag :) :)

Yes I know the "taper" pin crowd will scream because the FGB is a bolt on, but what the hell eh... I am not gi joe and this is more then adequate for my range rifle :) (although I would hazard a guess I will get years of trouble free servicee out of it)

I also believe if you contact walter @ Armseast he can make you up a 12.5" upper anytime.... with whatever bling you want on it **shameless advertising** ;)

I love walter as much as one hetrosexual man can love another, maybe even a little more ;)

Completley disagree. I have run 2500 rounds through my armalite 11.5" ar15 and have not had ONE stoppage. If an 11.5" AR, or any AR 14" or under is built properly with quality parts it will not have any reliability problems.

I use only break free aerosol spray and clean every 500 rounds. This is just a wipe down of the carrier, bolt, and other parts and then a generous lube with breakfree.

Sorry, just can't stand it when people start talking smack about carbine length AR's and how they just don't work right, or are unreliable because its not true if its a quality built one.
 
well brent, alot of people will disagree with you, myself I have had hit or miss luck with 11.5's and 10.5/10.3's.... and of course the velocity increase of the 12.5 over the 11.5 or shorter.

Anyway this thread is not to piss or moan about whatever, it is about the fact that a reputable canadian dealer is willing to go out of his way and support the canadian gun owning public by offering his guns with a shorter barrel..... basically you might as well say "from the factory". I know for a fact that Walt stands behind his products 100% and that buying from him is like money in the bank as far as warrenty is concerned.

Woah! Gear down big rig...this ain't Wes's first BB-Q, he's got more suspension time than you have posts.;) Many of us here have had a lot of experience with malfunctioning short barrels whether they were quality made factory guns or not. I have been on the range with HSLD Professional users who's SBRs would not run right. Many respected members here (Okay maybe just tolerated) have been on course with guns that refused to run under harsh conditions. The bottom line is a shorty AR needs all cylinders firing properly to run right, if you add a variable then things tend to go south real fast, if the 12.5" barrel takes some of those variables and timing issues into account then it is worth looking at. It is good to hear that your particular gun has run well thus far, perhaps you could elaborate more (on another post) as to what conditions you have run it under as 2500 rounds is little more than anecdotal at best given some of the round counts and burnt out barrels I have seen among my peers. I should note that I have yet again plunged into the SBR world with a Stag G1 10.3" Carbine. I will run the crap out of it soon and advise. Happy Shooting.:D

I believe it is a 1/9 twist... which is perfect for what I want, up here 55gr is about all we can find with the odd lot of 62gr going faster then I can get to the gun store.

I did however want to say that yea it does look very nice. I've never seen a 12.5" barrel before, is that custom or do most AR manufacturers make them in 12.5"?

I aways thought that it was 10.5, 11.5, 14, 16 and 20" barrel configurations. I guess any length is possible.
