army scope

There is/was talk of some of them using new Unertls however, I don't know if even the US Military would dole out the amount of money for one.

Isn't the M40 SWS currently topped with a US Optics 10x fixed? Or am I out of date?

I don't know about the 50's... in for updates.

IIRC they were using fixed power 10X scopes for about ever, and went to a variable for their latest. I could look it up, but... Google is yer friend, eh?

:)

I was on google. I did see the scope on the Military channel when they did a show on training snipers. Anyone else see the show and know the scope that I'm talking about ?

The U.S. Marines are using the S&B PM-II 3- 12 X 50mm on their new Knights Armament Corp. SASS IIRC........................

Overseas the us army uses whatever they want it seems....but i guess it depends if you're talking designated marksmen or actual snipers..i've seen guys with Nikon tacticals on their M-14's..but i don't think they were actual snipers more designated marksmen...and i know the marines are using the S&B as was stated.

The picture in SKBY's post - in the bottom right slightly out of focus looks
like an M40A2 with a 10x Unertl. From recollection they are still being used by the Marines.
Like many AFs the USArmy and Marines would use either operationally or on
a trial basis a variety of equipment so I 'm sure they've both used all the latest kit in optics. S&B scopes look like the flavour of the month!

Well the US Army regulars use either a Leupold Mark 4 M3A fixed 10x power or the new An/PVS-10 day/night scope in either the 8.5x or 12.2x version. And the special lads use what ever they feel like.

the USMC use the Unertl fixed 10x or the AN/PVS-10.

the national guard units are still re-building leatherwood 3x9 ART 1 and 2's and shipping them over to iraq. they like the steel scope tubes.
