ARs/858s also being examined for re-classification?

Well I think this is basically coming under the guise "Our last review is quite dated and we need to address some more recent imports" which will likely lead to prohibition. There is a line in there that stated some rifles were "not accurately reported by the verifier". I'd hate to say the sky is falling but I imagine this wont favour the firearms industry.

I'm guessing we will need to call on our mps to ratify the crim code as that's the angle this report is taking.

Oh for frick sake people take the tinfoil hats off and stick it back in your pants. Most of the attached articles are dated 2010. Stop dragging out dead and rotten wood to throw on a fire.

Remain dilligent but don't go looking for trouble.

You're right, be diligent. But at the pace the RCMP moves at, I'd say three years means its still a topic of consideration.

Very interesting, but I would like to know the issue (for the RCMP) about AR15. They are restricted by name, so what they want to do???

What is Also interesting is the approximative cost/firearm and the number registred. That mean they are considering theses 2points: someone want to know" what Will be the cost if we are confiscating theses firearms"?

A bunch of whiney self serving drivel, carefully edited to remove the truth about the RCMP's role in the defacto prohibition of firearms that are already in the safest place they could be - the hands of Canadian shooters.

I'm not one prone to being a "tinfoilhatter" The Swiss Arms investigation has been longstanding, and look where we're at now. Also, do you own a G22? Nope, they're prohibited. Both guns are on that list. I don't see any details being listed in that document in areas such as "issue" and "solutions" for a few

I see 4 firearms on that list, one which is no longer, one which is currently in hot water, and 2 on that list which haven't been brought up yet. I would bet money that the AR-15 platform is public enemy #1 for the gun control advocates.

It's all about sometimes its best not to bring unnecessary things to the attention of those that may wish to revive this delightful concept or reclassification. Let those who go beyond whining on a forum fight the real fight as they have been for us for many years without bringing up unnecessary drama on the Internet.

They wont be happy untill we only have bolt action rifles and pump action shotties. They dont want us anywhere near a even playing field.

I think the AR is safe in the restricted class as long as the Conservatives are in power. The CZ858 however seems to be in dangerous territory from what a few dealers have said, I believe the 858s imported by Wolverine with a weld in the spot of the auto sear are being investigated as converted autos, although from what I understand those 858s are theoretically okay because the receivers were never assembled into automatic firearms in the first place but the RCMP are still taking a long hard look at them.

I understand what you're saying, but IMO I disagree. The gun control lobby isn't about to use the same strategy of don't bring it up and hope that the government will ban guns.

Yes, I brought it up on a forum where there's a lot of unproductive banter.
You're absolutely right, there are others that do a tremendous amount more than I do for the firearms community which I am thankful for.

When I do have the opportunity, I try and do what I can. Today I renewed my CSSA membership, and emailed my MP. I wish that others would do the same, but I can only control my own actions. I realize that there are a lot of other opinions around, so I don't try and pick fights with anyone since we're all looking for the same outcome.

we need a section on CGN where pre written letters that can be sent to mp's and the PM are available to download. we just need to fill in some blanks to put who our mp is,print it off sign it and mail it away. this will get MANY more letters out the door.

i am so tired of this nonsense from our police/government

Fortunately there are those that believe in getting it done and being very proactive. Big thanx to Jay for his efforts in this thread here :

So mean its only the C/A issue ?
In some news back to 2007 the RCMP already stated themselves they can't classfiy the CZ858 as AK variant
because they are so different Mechanically

If so sounds like the CSA one is more safe because its made from brand new semi auto reciver ??

If you read this whole thing you will find RCMP lab stated themselves

"According to the RCMP, the gun is not a member of the AK-47 family.
"It's too different mechanically for us to consider it an AK," said Murray Smith, who manages the RCMP unit that classifies firearms. "There has to be some kind of family lineage dating back to the AK and that simply doesn't exist for the VZ."
But here, the law raises a puzzling contradiction: The VZ looks like the AK-47, and it fires the same round, semi-automatically, yet only one is prohibited. Why ban the AK and not the VZ?"

So that's mean the only way they can reclassify the VZ is through the C/A route ?

Correct me if I am wrong

I couldn't agree more. A few blanks with the appropriate mp choices for the day... And email/ printable with a signed signature. Succinct and more likely to galvinize the lazier members of our club. $5 in printouts and stamps goes a long ways.

Can you explain why the M&P15-22 is considered restricted? The gun's internal workings don't interchange with an AR at all.
In fact one operates with gas and the other operates from blow back. The M&P15-22 is a completely newly designed receiver and has no relationship to the AR other then looking like an AR.
