I've read on Wolverines website that it is export controlled, is that still the case for Armalite, Bushmaster, Stag? I ask here because no one has gotten back to me yet from Wolverine, which is fine, I just wanted to find out the answer before I have to head to work in a hour.

I want to finally become the owner of a AR but the Sabre brand is way out of my cost window, I wanted to psned around 1200 - 1400 and then have the ability to get some add-ons over time, ACE m4 stock and railed fore end,etc. Just don't want all that stuff yet since the total will be over 2 grand with all of it from the EE.

Any suggestions on getting into the AR game with a cheaper initial investment?

There's wind of a Norinco M4 around the bend.
Please don't bank on it thought, just something to keep on the back burner.

I was looking at the Stag-15's at ArmaEast. If you buy a fully assembled one the cheapest one is $1345 but if you buy the parts and assemble it yourself it is cheaper.

Upper = $740
Lower = $415

Total = $1155

I believe that the only assembly that would be required would be to attach the upper and lower together with two pins.

Go to Dlask. You`ll get a Canadian made AR for that money.

You can still get AR's, it's just that they will only come with fixed A2 style stocks and fixed flash hiders.

Of course that stuff can be removed and replaced but the collapsible stocks are being restricted for export as well so your limited to Chinese and some Israeli stuff.

The Sabres also start at 2 grand. Whereas a Armalite or a Stag can be had for $1050 to $1500 depending on options. I understand the difference in tolerances and machining on the Sabre's, but since I am not heading to Afghanistan it doesn't matter to me. It is a range toy after all.
