AR's in .22LR oh my

So I have reached the conclusion that people at ranges are EVIL they have all these cool toys and they let you try them and then my bank account seems to want to magically empty it's self.

So I am toying with the idea of a AR in .22LR

Thoughts on the following i might have missed 1 or 2.

Colt's version
S&W M15-22
Rugger SR22 (Not a real AR but could be fun)
Mossbergs tactical (Thought it felt cheap)
Remington makes one I believe to as well or somthing that is like an AR
and the Cheapa (Yes I know)

Any thoughts I know the Colt one and the S&W are probably the best option the remington looked good at WSS today but was under glass so didnt get to touch it but I was sure to leave some nice finger print smudges :)

Does it being restricted matter? Something to think about. The good thing about the Ruger Sr22 is you can shoot it on your property not just a range....
 
For reasons beyond the average man, the S&W and the Colt (made by Umarex) are both restricted.

if you're going to go the restricted route, you might as well get a .22LR upper for the AR-15. Not my realm of experience, but I'd figure that way at least you have a lower that can be used for other purposes if so needed, wheras the Colt, etc are all .22LR rifles dressed up as AR-15 rifles.

the last two times I was at the range, it was full of said "evil" people all having a great time with their new AR style 22's
And indeed they were more than willing to share, especially since they were fascinated with my "old school" T/C R 55 benchmark 22.

so i got to try a colt ( wonderful, well built, damn near "real")
a Remington VTR (ech)
and most recently a Ruger SR 22. that was my favorite great trigger (way better than any 10-22 i have owned) and accurate too and just plain old fun with the traditional butler creek banana clip

oh! as a side note, i got to try another semi auto 22 that was not an AR type, but I thought was absolutely amazing. it was a magnum research "magnumlite" 22. must have weighed about 2 lbs!! and just as accurate as my R55. an amazing rifle. these are VERY DANGEROUS to play with as they are about a thousand dollar touch, but it was pretty impressive........
 
restricted isnt an issue for me as the only place i shoot is the range if i want to go have fun in the woods i will just take my .22

I dont really feel like dropping the cash on a AR lower and putting a 22 on it wouldnt it cost a fair bit more? I would like to go this route but it might be cost a cost issue

What do mean? I thought we were talking about a new .22 - A restricted .22 would in fact be an issue for you if you wanted to take it into the woods with you ;)

SR-22 FTW - a few more dollars and a little heavier than some of the others, but non-restricted and very modable(sp) - good quality Hicap mags available too
 
I bought a CMMG .22LR kit this summer.....couldn't believe how much fun I was missing out on. I even got a couple dedicated AR-15 .22lr barrels from Dlask (1-16 twist.

.........fun fun fun :)

I'm trying to find somebody who would import one in.

They are vastly superior to the Chiappas dedicated uppers.

Sorry that was my bad I meant my .22 Savage Mark II not the .22 on the AR, Sorry fingers and brain were not working together.

Questar, Could that lower portion be used with a different upper such as a .223 later on? I have heard questionable things about vulcan lowers do you have any insight to share with us about this? since after all you sell them you probably see more and have to deal with any returns due to them being crap.

Will that take all the AR accessories like the carry handle and all that fun stuff?

Lower can be used with any "standard / milspec" upper... so add a 5.56 upper half and you're good to go.

We have had no real issues with the Vulcan lowers... even with 5.56 uppers. If you're comparing it to say a COLT or S&W .22lr then I'd actually say the Vulcan is probably better since it's not dedicated for .22lr only and can be used with standard uppers as well.
