Just got the new Art of the Tactical Carbine DVD 2. It looks great. We are going to start working through the drills the next week or so. I'm not law or military so it's just for fun. But I think it's a really good DVD. Maybe a little advanced in some ways. I was just wondering how guys organize there own training. There's three of us so we are going to use one guy as "the drill guy" while the other two shoot. Rotate the shooters and drill guy 3 or 6 times so we each get to shoot even amounts at each drill. We started changing up the range to accommodate the techniques used in the vid. I am also curious to what guys got for ranges and targets. We use 1\2 inch jet cut plates, square bales and old cars.
 
Get a video copy of your shooting - have one guy shoot, once guy camera and one guy RO, its the best way to see for yourself what you are actually doing as opposed to what you think your doing.
 
Thanks for the reply. I agree with you. A cam will work great. I'll bring my lab top to the range so a guy can review video right away on the tailgate of the truck.
 
Does anyone know of a range where they let you do this around the winnipeg area. Ie: slightly less static then just like a normal range?
 
I own all their DVD's there very good all around, highly recommend!

My only question is when will there be a Travis Haily & Chris Costa 1/6th figure?

I might have maybe downloaded this.....have only watched a bit of it. Looks like a really good training DVD. If i could only find time to watch it now....
 
Yeah we got our range re arranged. we never worked through anything but tried the magpul or comp way of holding the gun. It does work better. Controlling recoil. A friend I train with has cz 858 and he can notice the difference in recoil control and that gun jumps. I'm not law or expert but I notice alot of the guys in mags and other vids don't do this. In the magpul dvd's the fore grip is just a reference point. Any one else got some ideas on this.

just be sure you dont shoot the the steel plates to close. :D
 
I am currently going through the pistol videos....don't agree with everything they say...but its definitely worth while hearing different perspectives.

I agree. On the carbine DVD as well. They can be alittle strict with certain concepts. Ie: the support hand thumb forward grip.

It works great for rapid-fire recoil control but try holding a M4 like that while moving as a member of a squad or tac team over extended periods. Wow! impossible as a tac team trying to cover a sector for more than 10 minutes.

Great lateral, but poor horizontal control.

But there is a time and place for it.
 
Meh, the only shooting I will ever have to do is from a bench to a fixed target. No beards and ninja-cartwheels for me.
