Picked this up at a yard sale yesterday for 2 bucks. :) Judging by the markings it's for an 18 pounder Quick firing gun. Since it's been fired and is intact, I'm thinking it's a Shrapnel shell, thin walled and doesn't fit the profile of the HE version. My wire brush is on the soft side, so I couldn't get the worst of the rust off, but here goes, what I can read. Curious about it's age and any other info.

OL is 9 5/8 in. Dia. is 3.728 in., allowing there is some corrosion.

Grizz

Looks like a fired 18-pounder Shrapnel shell which has been fired, didn't go bang and then was disarmed and unloaded.

Standard in both World Wars for British Commonwealth field artillery.

Nice find!!!

That is nice. I wonder if the Schrapnel shell normally survived it's own detonation, like a flying shotgun barrel. If so, there must have been a lot of the things lying around.
